You can take your leave back home, you actually final out of your base and then start your terminal/permissive where you are moving. You will have to go get a retirement ID at the nearest base/post/national guard armory assuming you are being retired. I've seen so many people take leave before leaving and for the life of me can't figure out why someone would want to waste their leave. For me once I clear housing I'll be able to pull down my BAH so there's a big benefit for me taking leave after I final out.
On a side note can somebody tell me if I will receive my BAH/COLA for Alaska since I'm still actually stationed here until I'm retired, or will I get paid for where I am moving to?

Well, so long as you are still entitled to BAH, you will receive it where claimed. Recall that you had to submit a "Start/Stop/Change BAH" form to receive BAH where you currently receive it. I tend to think it would not be possible to change your location as a result of a pending retirement/separation. So, I think you would get the Alaska rate.
Yea I am being medically retired. I am gonna have to do this quick. I go in on Friday to sign everything with my Peblo and I would assume I'll get my orders pretty quick. Most of my friends got their orders within two hours after signing their ratings. So I am hoping that's gonna be the case with me. Anyways I am gonna have to do my outprocessing really fast. I have 60 days of leave and I'll get 20 days of permissive so that leaves me 10 days to outprocess. I really hope TMO can get to my place quick to move my stuff so I don't have to wait around and I can go home right away. I am hoping to be out of here at the end of this month. Luckily my hometown where I am moving to is only about 15 minutes away from Offut AFB so I will probably have to get my Blue ID card there.
Double check everything with your PEBLO, mine told me that I would have plenty of time to outprocess and then take all my leave as terminal and I currently have 79 days of leave, and I'm in Alaska so TMO is probably going to take a bit longer than if I were CONUS. I'm pretty sure we have different timelines than the Army does, from what I've read they are held to that 90 day timeline but in the AF we are not.
the 90 days is a DoD guideline, but does not "start" until orders are cut officially(there is some wiggle room for the whole last days of the month thing, like if 90 days is on the 15th, then it gets moved to the 27th-28th), any exceptions have to have higher hq approval and an example of such would be if you sold 60 days of leave in your career, had 79 days on the books currently, then they would have to give you 79 days for leave/20 for permissive/20 processing depending on how the last day of the month thing falls, but at minimum they have to give you the 79 leave/20 processing.
the main thing to take away is, the MEMBER cannot request more than 90 days, the DoD/branch can do whatever best fits them within time constraint/end of month date requirement. but they cannot "steal" your earned leave and if you cannot sell it (which they can force selling up to the 60 days in your career under dod regulation) then you get it.

hey square how long did it take for your peblo to get results from PEB?
Ok so I signed and excepted my ratings yesterday with my Peblo and she said it could take anywhere between 1-35 days to get my orders I've had a couple of friends who got their orders within two hours of excepting their ratings however mine was on a Friday and she said the likely hood of them doing anything on a Friday is unlikely so she said ill probably get orders on Monday. Now here comes my questions you seem knowledgeable twitch so I have 60 days of leave saved up and I will be allowed to take 20 days of permissive what date on my orders you think I will have as in a end of service date I am thinking it would be August 28th since I will have 80 days in total of leave that would give me time to outprocess plus use my leave. If it is towards the end of August then that would put me at a final out around the beginning of June since my 80 days of leave. Also am being Permanently retired as a TSgt with 12 years of service will I get retirement certificates as well or is it only for the people that hit 20 years? I hope that's not a stupid question but one of my friends believes that I should get retirement certificates as well I told him a medical retirement and a 20 year retirement is compleltty different and I wouldn't earn anything like that cuz I didn't serve a full 20 years. I am correct right?

AFI 36-3212:
4.13. Ceremonies and Presentations of Appropriate Certificates. Commanders will conduct a suitable ceremony before members retire or separate for disability. For an oversea member returning to the CONUS, hold the ceremony at the oversea base. If the oversea separation base does not do this, the MPF at the CONUS separation base arranges an appropriate ceremony before the member leaves that base. Present the retirement or discharge certificate, along with any awards and letters of appreciation at the ceremony. Follow these guidelines:
4.13.1. Retirement. Commanders use AFI 36-3203, Service Retirement, as used for members who retire for age or service. When possible, the MPF gets a written statement from members who decline a ceremony.
4.13.2. Discharge. As outlined in AFI 36-3202, Separation Documents, the member's immediate commander will make suitable expression of appreciation on behalf of the Air Force for the member's service.
4.13.3. Exceptions. When members can not act for themselves and are in a patient status, or are in a VA hospital, present or mail (with suitable cover letter) the certificate and other documents to the NOK.
Wow I am surprised. This is good information. So with me getting ready to be Medically Retired from the Air Force would I be entitled to a retirement ceremony and the same retirement certificates as a 20 year retiree? If that's the case then how many people actually except a retirement ceremony cuz I know a few people in my unit that didn't get a retirement ceremony or any certificates when they got medically retired.

I know it is often not done. Over the years several people have written posts describing getting certificates, and a few getting a ceremony and certificate. Some have had to request it (which, seems wrong to me- commanders should give appropriate respect for retiree's service without having to be asked to do so).
Thank you for this info. I think I am gonna request to have retirement certificates but I think I would be a little embarrassed to ask for my own ceremony although one of my friends might do it so will see. I have done a lot of things in my 12 year career so will see how this goes down.

I got certificates etc. no ceremony in my case as I did in fact formally decline it. Whereas my unit was good to me on a personal level, I have never worked in sucha top heavy and yet still completely mismanaged unit in my 17 year career.

Well in my unit I will probably have to ask someone to order my retirement certificates and asking for a retirement ceremony is probably pretty much out of the question. So once I get my orders I will ask someone in my orderly room to order my certificates. Also when you got your orders did your Peblo call you in to give them to you or were they on your VMPF? My Peblo said she would call me in once she got them she hasn't called me yet but I am thinking they should be online as well. In regards to my final out if my orders say August 28-31 on them I think I would final out sometime in the beginning of June cuz of my 80 days if leave. I am going back home and going to school doing the VocRehab and living with my parents until I can get on my feet.
peblo will call you in for your orders, or if your lucky your shirt/cc will email them to you first, it took about 4 days after my cc/peblo got them to appear on virtual. I would also note it was 2-3 weeks until I got orders after accepting my findings, it is shorter for folks being severanced/sep'd vs those retireing for whatever reason. your final out date is " up to you" in regards to how much leave and everything you wanna take, as long as you have time to outprocess should be fine.
