All this talk about getting a ceremony, its kind of funny.... I had the same conversation with my unit today. They told me the only thing I rated was " A go F#$% yourself and slap on the A$$" Wow. Don't really care to be honest.

Me Neither. VA was done on May 1st and Peblo looked in the system and said it was Q.A. ready on May 5th.
Today makes 7 "working" days.

Your unit sucks at leadership...and that is kind of important in any military unit.
You deserve everything you have earned by virtue of your service. And if your First Sergeant or Company Commander won't say it, I will:
Thank you for your service on behalf of a grateful Nation. You stepped forward and served where many didn't. While the ceremony, pomp and circumstance, medals, etc. are a symbol and you deserve them, what is most important is the service you gave to the person on your left or right that you walked the line with, that you stood guard with, and that you would have given your life for if called to do so. Whatever your current lousy leadership has to say about it, your buds that you served with know your worth and would have done exactly what you did.
Not a proper ceremony, but thank you anyway. Those who are worth a damn appreciate your service.
Now enjoy the rest of your life. And, where you can, help your fellow Veterans.
Me either, ratings were done on the 30th, I spoke with my PEBLO yesterday and she had me call my ombudsman (the USAF equivalent) said he could be useful on this stage. Not sure what he is but I shot him an email.
Let me second what Jason said, I myself have opted out of a ceremony but I can understand why others would want one. I'm fairly new to this unit and don't really know my coworkers or like them, and so I don't want a ceremony. I've been in 18.5 years and have seen a lot of respect for fellow service members fade away, respect as a whole has diminished and I think the response you were given is a reflection of that diminished respect. I am by no means advocating "hugs" for everyone, but every single service members deserves respect from their fellow brothers/sisters who also serve, regardless of rank or time in service. Good luck as a civilian.
Well I got my orders today. Two days after I signed and excepted my ratings. My retirement date is 28 August 2014 if you include my 60 days of leave and 20 days of permissive I will final out on 9 June 2014. So I have a lot to do in order to final out on 9 June hopefully I'll be able to get every thing done in time. Also about the retirement ceremony I am an E-6 and I only have 12 years in and I feel as though I don't deserve one so I declined it and even if I did want one my unit would laugh in my face, however my orderly had me fill out a worksheet for my retirement certificates so it looks like I will be getting those so that's cool. Anyways I wish you all the best of luck in your future endeavors.
Let me know how long it takes you to get TMO set up, that's my biggest worry.
Yea I'll let you know man. TMO is what I am worried about the most. I am gonna go there sometime this week to set up shipping for my house hold items.
I just think that its baffling how i got 10% for a wrist with ruptured tendons and other stuff but NO SURGERIES and i got 10% for a Knee with 2 surgeries for ruptured patellar tendon and now with a cadaver tendon and 3 screws and a 14 inch scar...
If yours are ready mine should be close since my package was sent back the day before yours. Also I just got off the phone with my PEBLO because I was sweating having 80 days of leave on the books and this is what she told me. Once my orders are cut I would be given 30 days to out process, however the 90 day timeline does not apply to USAF at least not at JBER. She said after I final out I would be able to take all my leave plus my 30 days of permissive(I'm OS). She said she saw a guy yesterday that was in the same boat as me and his retirement date was all the way out to October.
I would at this point, just because of that reply, demand a ceremony. By DoD regulation they have to give you one if you are retirement eligible, if they refuse, make them do it in writing, then take that to the base CC or IG. if you do nothing then they win, at worst you get an akward 10 minute retirement ceremony, at best they learn a hard lesson in leadership and adjust their rudder into the right direction.
My Flight chief ordered my certs for me, since my supervisor is also retireing and kind of in his own world, and I declined a ceremony because since being at this unit for 3 years ive had 4 commanders 5 shirts (at minimum actually more since they have a perm. "under shirt" position that they rotate SNCO's through. My unit was very helpful and kind to me, but just piss poor in the management/taking care of people first etc. and I was a bit of a hard charger in regards to getting that fixed, so at best in my case would of been an akward ceremony with leadership that either did not know me or that I had made life difficult for by correcting their mistakes left and right.
its not just your service that warrants praise, it is your sacrifice, force the assholes hand to recognize that, or have the ceremony but invite a random officer from another unit to be the head and just make your leadership take a back seat.
I hear what you are saying. That said, I don't want to force anyones hand in doing it. It would be one thing if the dudes there I care to share that moment with. I would rather just go on my way. I didn't joint the Marines and spend 13 years in the infantry to be recognized. I am good man thanks for the concern! you are a true blood thirsty war pig like myself!

Get a load of this guys, let me tell you the day I've had trying to outprocess today. First I go to medical I hand them my sheets the rude lady says you need an appt. for this so she said the first available appt for a retiring physical is 9 June well my final out was supposed to be 9 June so now I have to push back my final out a few days cuz they don't have any appts. Till 9 June. After that I was already mad so I go to TMO everything is done on a computer over their so I had to set up an account to set up my house hold goods shipment and when I had a few questions the lady at the front desk said I can't answer your questions right now can't you see I'm on lunch. All she was doing was playing on her iPad. Luckily a person Hurd me bitching from his office cuz at that point I was really heated and that nice person helped me. So basically the Air Force is giving me one last giant fuck you with me having to push back my final out because of medical also I am going to have to sell back 10 days of leave cuz I won't make it out of here on time cuz of medical every time I think about it it's making me mad.
When did they call to say yours were ready? I'm hoping for sometime this week personally...obviously every situation is different.
I called her today to find out but they were ready yesterday ...I bet you will be ready this week..I swear our claims are in the same basket thru this whole process.
Man i'm not selling them anything!!! all you have to do is out process, put your terminal leave with your regular and be gone anyway. You can be gone and still getting paid!!! Selling back leave doesn't constitute BAH, BAS and what other special pays you are entitled to!! If i sold back my 38 days, that's throwing away $325 BAS, $1380 BAH...no way..i can be at home collecting a free check and still not have to come back!!!! This is how you "double dip" if you start employment elsewhere... That's just me though, everyone situation maybe different, but i can't see it..
However, the VA did rate me on the same 2 injuries that the Navy found me Unfit for, so tax money is mine. Now, i have to contest 2 service connected conditions that they said were not service connected. This may be what i need to push me over 90%.
