Just spoke to my peblo this morning and am becoming a little frustrated...On 30 April my peblo and va rep both received my va proposed rating by e-mail. I was told then it should only take 10 business days from the time it arrives at AFPC. It should have already arrived by mail at AFPC by now you would think...So this morning my peblo procedes to inform me that AFPC has not received my findings yet and it could be a few more weeks??? Why does this seem to not make sense to me...I have sifted through many postings for the time it takes AFPC to return findings once they have VA ratings and its typically been 2-3 weeks. Anyone else been at this stage and then were notified of results anytime soon? I am really hoping they have received the ratings....

I did find out that they government mail the proposed ratings to the PEB- which apparently takes Randolph up to 2-3 weeks to sift through the mail before "receiving the proposed rating." I do not understand why if they can e-mail your MSC your proposed rating why they have to snail mail the rest of it...

I know, I am in the same situation. My ratings were sent to the PEB on 24 April and I still do not have findings. You would think that this should be the quickest phase, bit it's not because its slow and agonizing. I'm keeping optimistic!

I know...I try to stay positive but when I am stationed away from my husband it makes it worse...I just wish they could give us a no later than date...but they would probably bust that timeline too so it might not help...

I 'm sure someone here can assist you in undferstanding the process, but we need to know a little bit my intel ...Ok first ... We need to know the basics: Who told you, What exactly did they say, When where you told this and where in the process are you? IDES I'm guessing. Air Force I'm guessing. Completed MEB I'm guessing.

Yes I am Air Force and in IDES. Here is my timeline:

2 Feb 12: PEB logged in MEB case at Randolph
26 March 12: Found unfit- requested VA ratings
28 March 12: VA received PEB paperwork
4 April- Baltimore sent ratings to Cleveland
9 April- Cleveland received
11 April- Proposed rating completed and closed out of Cleveland- sent back to Baltimore for "admin work"
30 April- Informed from va rep and peblo they received my va proposed ratings but could not tell me what they were until AFPC gave them back
TODAY- informed afpc still has not received my proposed ratings and it takes "2-3 weeks for afpc to get ratings from va" -per PEBLO

I don't think it should take government mail 3 weeks to send something but maybe I am wrong...just not understanding why they are still quoting me at "another couple of weeks"

This process sucks! I have been waiting on PEB to get my rating in the mail since 6 APR. The VA said they sent it 6 APR but the Army keeps saying they have not received it yet. I seen the proposed rating so I know it's done.

The basics: I am Air Force and in IDES.
1. Who told you..........................? Informed from VA REP and PEBLO they received my VA proposed ratings.
2. What exactly did they say........? Could not tell me what the ratings were until AFPC approves them; then sends them back.
3. When where you told this .......? 30 APR 2012 & 16 MAY 2012.
4. Where in the process are you...? Awaiting ratings from AFPC.

My thoughts: Proposed ratings are not OFFICIAL, so they won't disclose them to you... but you should recieve YOUR RATINGS (not proposed rating) by the end of the month. ;)

I know the preverbial clock that never runs fast enough still isn't fixed..... I believe the repairman has left the building......

How do you know the dates from IDES? seems to be a big secret here.

Wow! Perhaps my case is the "odd duck" here. But I rec'd a thick packet of my "proposed" rating via snail mail to my home address. It was sent from the VA regional office that did my VA ratings.

I rec'd that "proposed" packet of ratings data a few days BEFORE I rec'd the official PEB/PEBLO Form 199 (Army) for the military disabiity percentage.

I wonder if a call to your VA regional office would work to at least provide you written data on the VA side?

At one point, I called the VA 1-800 number. They used my SSN on their computer search of their records data base, and I was able to receive another copy of my "proposed" ratings from them as well - 20-some pages. I write this just in case the VA regional office can't/won't assist you in getting a copy of your "proposed" ratings to you.

When I rec'd my VA "proposed" ratings, I broke out the percentages for each military unfit condition that had been placed on my NARSUM that had been sent to the VA for ratings. I was then able to "estimate" what the Army was gonna give me for their disability percentage, based on what the VA had done on their ratings for each of my conditions that had been listed as "Unfit" on the military side.

Let me know if you try the 1-800 toll-free number. The VA Regional office had already populated the VA data base with my case (proposed ratings) and I got a copy of it after I called and talked to the 1-800 VA rep, who looked up my case by my SSN.

This was sent to my home address via snail mail and I verified the VA had my correct address, and asked for a copy. They did not hesitate to send it to me.

I am still in the review of evidence stage with the VA. No telling how long the IPEB will take. Packages sent off from here to Texas in February are still out in neverland somewhere. From what i have read the VA will not assign ratings until they recieve my unfit from the AF. I am over 20 yrs so i already know i am toast and will be at least 70%. it has taken 10 months to get this far hoping it doesn't take another 10.

My commander contacted the IPEB regarding my case. They told her today that on 21 May, yesterday, they received my va rating proposal. It is taking "government mail 2-3 weeks to get to AFPC." They proceeded to tell my commander that my paperwork is with the board and should be with my case manager within 7 business days. At least I FINALLY have an idea of what is going on! I cannot believe my rating was mailed on the 30th of April and JUST NOW is being looked at by the IPEB...snail mail...

I would question if snail mail is the true culprit....... saying it takes government mail 2-3 weeks to go from point A to point B doesn't mean it's the TRUTH, .... It means it's the ANSWER.
I believe that since it's not tracked..... it's become the easiest alibi..... the scapegoat to blame because no one has the testicals to man up and say "oh it's been sitting on my desk... maybe I should open it"

Agree with you buddy! The VA rep at Ft. Lewis told me that when he sent the VA regional office my paperwork, he said he got my paperwork that morning, and he was able to dispense it by gov't courier mail to VA Regional later that same afternoon! But it did sit somewhere at regional for 2-3 days before it was "clocked in" by regional as having been received and assigned to someone for processing.

The PEB and PEBLOs are generally located on the same posts as large as is Ft Lewis (JBLM). So I suspect paperwork sits for awhile in a que and/or on someone's desk until it's sent for forwarding to the next destination.

Don't forget to mention the delay on Seattle VA rating team taking 6+ months now on ratings... buddy of mine has had her packet under review for more than 6 1/2 months now for a few ratings... I'm biting nails for her because it's taking them so damn long!

Gentlemen, I understand how frustrating the uncertain can be. However, think about the older VA/military compensation programs. Just a few years ago if you were found unfit for service, you were immediately cleared and sent home (meaning pay stopped) and had to wait until the VA finished their evals to actually get your compensation. Now I know there were variations in cases and that this was not the exact process it took, but my main point is that our system now at least keeps you employed until you get the findings. I am saying this now after just finishing my FPEB (requested FPEB but after presenting new evidence the board overturned the original IPEB findings and gave me 30% combat related PDRL) and understand some of the ins and and outs of the program. I know every situation is different and many of us are ready to get on with other careers, pursue other oppurtunities, and even just spend well-earned time with family. I guess my bottom line is unless you have some 150k job lined up, just sit back, do what you are told by your command and soak up the pay. Also use your time to personally reflect on what new career(s) you might want to pursue if you MOS or Branch doesnt directly correlate with the Civilian world (mine was 11 series). Additionally, the old saying catching more flies with honey is definitely true in this case. Try not to point fingers at your PEBLO, for the most part, they are trying their best to service a tremendous load of soldiers; more than they were originally intended for. If you stay non-confrontational and open-minded (maybe it really isnt that specific persons fault) then they will work harder for you. Additionally, you will come out of the situation feeling better regardless of whether the outcome changed in your favor. I don't mean to preach but I want to offer what I believe to be the best use of your energy. I wish every one of you the best.

P.S. Do as much research as possible in every facet of the VA and the PEB system.

Good advice!

What helped me during this process was:

1. Reading everything I could on this web site, and hiring a lawyer.

2. Thinking outside the box and researching/planning on what to do and how to make my retirement transition moves to work out in some kind of sane order and process.

I spent lots of time on transition issues as I had no help from my command's inability to offer genuine and timely guidance on Warrior trasnsition issues (yes, I was CB-WTU, but this transition piece was ineffective and weakly done). So without effectual guidance, I was pretty much left to my own self to figure things out.

Getting successfully through the IDES process with whatever the outcome is you hope for on this, plus, developing a transition plan (should severance/retirement be those options) is time well spent.

Like an old truck-driver friend of mine said, "Life's a whole lot easier once you know the road and the load."

Sometimes we have to chart a map out just to get an idea of what direction to take. So spend time exploring all "how-to" on life scenarios, options and opportunites - and get these idea option in your mind-hopper so you have some possible life choices to pick up for later on.

This transition phase is really a personal DITY piece. And worth spending the time to think and explore.
