That is sooo BS. I believe that being combat related allows concurrent receipt but that's not something I know much about. So hopefu;lly there is no issues with you getting that.

usafaviator, how were you able to track what you package did when it was at the ipeb? My package was just sent on Friday and I would like to be able to track it also. Is there a website?

Thanks everybody. This is not really what I had envisioned as the way my career would end, but life happens and all we can do is try to help guide it along the way. In the good words of Mr. Jimmy Buffett, we gotta try to keep it between the buoys.;) This is a double edged sword for me....the ratings will help ensure that I have some stability for the remainder of my life, but it also solidifies that I'm injured beyond repair. We need to continue to advocate for eachother to ensure that no airman, soldier, sailor, marine or coasite is ever left behind.

Behlftball: I used a combination of methods to help track my status, all of which I learned from the other here:

1) Your PEBLO and VA MSC are supposed to be your links between yourself and the "system". The PEBLO handles everything PEB, while the VA MSC handles everything VA (including the moment your package is sent to regional VA for ratings...then subsequently sent back to the PEB

2) Ebenefits is the database operated by the VA. Often times, you can gauge if the VA has received an unfit memo/request for ratings by following your package status there. It's not the best tool for this, as it is designed to help you track VA rating process, but you can read a bit between the lines here and there

3) The VA toll free hotline is also a good tool to help you track your status. Again, this was originally designed to help you track VA status, but (if you get the right operator that is willing to go into the system and give you some good details), you can get a few more pieces of the puzzle. The trick is getting somebody that will help you rather than giving you the typical "contact your PEBLO/MSC" or even reading verbatim what you can already get yourself.

4) Contact your local DAV or American Legion to sign them on as your representation. Google Form 21-22 (power of attorney), complete it and bring it in/mail it to them and they will send it to the VA. Once the VA recognizes them as your representation, the DAV/AM Legion will be able to get into the system and give you all the notes, comms, etc. that nobody else will give you. Additionally, they can get a copy of your proposed ratings instead of you having to wait and additional month or two for your 199 to come in to your PEBLO.

5) The last option must be exercised with caution: a phone call to AFPC disabilities section can get you some answers/clues. Be advised, they don't like you calling them directly...but if you are polite and apologetic and state that you aren't getting the info you need and are just trying to learn how the process works....they might give you some info (catch more bees with honey idea). For myself, I was able to find out that the PEB had sent my package to the VA (including dates)....without coming right out and telling me, and after reading so much on the forums here, I knew that this indicated that I was found unfit.

So, as you can see, it is a combination of methods that worked for me. Your experience may differ...just remain persistent, study up on the governing regs and (most importantly) pick through the forums here and read as much as you can handle.

Met with PEBLO/VA MSC to get form 356 (199)/VA ratings pkg brief, 10 day window to concur or appeal started: 10 Oct 12

Everything was good with my 356 (199) except for block 10d...is marked "no" when should be marked "yes". This is the block that states if your referred condition(s) occured in a combat zone or by combat action. My condition occured at Balad (combat zone) and by (what I beleive) insturmentality of war...I will file for CRSC, but want my 356 to at least acknowledge that the condition happend in a combat zone for now, and I'll work the CRSC issue when I retire.

Aviator,

I had the same thing happen. Talked to my army appointed JAG, and he recommended that I request the PEB do an "administrative review" on just the combat-related findings. I agreed with everything else. He stated that it wouldn't put the rest of the findings "at risk," and that an administrative review wouldn't take too long. I submitted a letter and some old records to support the combat-related determination.

Three weeks and counting now...

I'm going to give AFPC Jag until COB tomorrow to get back to me with guidance. I already have a Wounded Warrior rep involved and will be discussing my situation with him tomorrow morning. I have also discussed it a bit with Jason and he gave some excellent advice. I'll take the weekend to ponder the situation and decide on Monday. I have until the 20th to sign.

eagleone: That is what I called AFPC MEB Jag to determine if they were able to get with the PEB down there and have them take another peek, rather than doing anything formal. Although my case has moved pretty fast, I really hate to drag this out any longer.

firedawg: I think you might beat me. I don't plan to turn my in until next week. Orders are taking 2 weeks or so here.

I agree. I hated dragging it out any longer, but I suspect that you and I are in the same boat, and the tax-relief would be significant. The extra month in the system would help you to get the best-solution and take care of your family. With the improved findings, you would be in a position to work (or not) any job that you would enjoy and not worry about the salary.

My dream job is to be able to be a Door Greeter at Walmat. "Get in; Get your crap, and get out!" ;)

After talking to AFPC MEB JAG, I decided that requesting an FPEB just to challenge the combat designator on my 356 (199) would most probably (99%) be fruitless in my particular situation. I plan to apply for CRSC my first day of retirement and already have the form, memos and research/records ready to submit, but will most likely hire an attorney to improve my chances (as I'm sure I might have to apply a couple of times and maybe fight a bit).
My PEBLO scanned/faxed the 356 to AFPC 2 minutes after I was done with him, so AFPC received it today and will start working my orders. PEBLO stated 3-4 weeks for orders to be complete, but stated that actual average right now has been more like 2-3 weeks.

Next update should be receiving my message/orders (est. 2-3 weeks).
