Introduce yourself

Viking,

Welcome aboard! Sorry to hear of your ailments. Hopefully you will receive your answer any day now from the IPEB. Thanks for sharing. When I was an AD AF TSgt and ill, I too felt like some people treated me like it was my fault for being ill. Hang in there! Hopefully, you will get a great outcome.

Welcome Viking!

I can tell you my experience has been very much the same. There is no worse situation then being in a "he-man" culture and not being able to flex muscles and run like a deer. I was pretty bent for a while about the whole thing, and I've let it ruin more then one day for me.

I don't know if you've ever heard the saying about getting divorced from someone it being said "the best revenge is to live well"? I think it applies to this a little as well. The best way I can move on from being made to feel like a turd for something I have no control over is to live well. Make the most of my life and take advantage of every opportunity it presents.

Right now, I'm 33 years old, and I have a 50% retirement before I wake up in the morning. Yup, I'm tore up, but my wife still loves me, and I have the rest of my life ahead of me. I can do anything I want, and I know I served and gave alot while doing so. These clowns that have no compassion, and can't see that they could just as easily end up where we are will never get it.

My sister in law has Crohns, and I have back and leg problems- I can imagine pretty well what you are going through. Your in the right place here man,....LOTS of good people and good information. Pull up a chair and ask anything ya like, share as much as you can. Again, welcome!

Viking,

Good to have you here. Hang in there, this too shall pass!

Hey Viking! Welcome to the madhouse...I mean forum. :D

The great thing about this site, as everyone who has posted before me has already shown, is you'll find nothing but support and encouragement and well wishes here. It's a great place.

With that said, here's to the best of luck for you!

Thanks everyone. I do have the support of my wonderful wife and two children, and everybody else on here as well. I will keep you all posted if/when I find anything out.

Hello all,

I have found this website to be very informative. I just recently got diagnosed with Diabetes. I had to ask for the Glucose test because I had symptoms of a diabetic. I have been in the Navy for over 13 years. My rate is an AO1 (IYAOYAS). I see that I have a long road ahead of me. Reading some of the blogs on this forum is scaring me because I was looking forward to retiring in the Navy. I don't know what lies ahead. I am currently stationed in Patuxent River, MD. I am due to reenlist in OCT of 2010, and my PRD is in Feb of 2010. I am currently taking 15 units of Insulin and am taking Metaformin at night. I have no idea what is going to happen. My military career looks to be getting cut short. I am scared because all i know is the military and that is what my wife and kids know.:(

Hello everybody,
Jason, excellent site! I'm a Marine with almost eleven years in and just starting the MEB/PEB process. I had a two level fusion L4-S1 in Aug 07. I was never put on limited duty, just a month and a half of convalescent(?) leave and light duty being able to do anything that didn't hurt.I returned to full duty April 08. I didn't miss any PFTs or rifle ranges.I recently found out that I have fractured the L5-S1 fusion, as well as bulging discs from C3-C7 with C5-C7 possibly herniated. I am at a remote duty station where I kind of flew under the radar for awhile seeing civilian doctors. Well my command was sent a letter recommending me for a MEB. Well, I went to an appointment for it this week and Military the doctor I saw was recommending I just go straight to a PEB pending a physical and eval by Military doctors of my lower back. I was just curious if she could just skip the MEB part. Actually I have a lot more questions, but I am sure I can find most of my answers in other posts throughout your fantastic website!

Optics32,

Thanks for the compliments. It is great to have you here!

It is probably a misuse of the word/misunderstanding about "skipping" the MEB. It cannot be skipped, the MEB is required per the law and regulations, and the evaluation develops and gathers the evidence that the PEB uses. What she may have meant is that there is no question that your condition fails retention standards and will go to the PEB.

Feel free to ask any questions!

She actually said she recommends going straight to PEB, "so that I don't waste anymore of the Military's time." I am assuming she is expecting a long recovery time, but I cannot stand sitting on my butt and not doing anything.

Hey guys, my name is carlos i am OIF veteran and recieved a 30% rating for PTSD. I see and heard the minimum rating is 50% what do i need to do to get at least 50%. My next question is i read where if you are 30% or more i can get out on a medical retirement and recieve full E-6 benefits, can you give me some good advice.

Carlos,

Welcome! You got it right. If you are separated/retired from the military due to a "highly stressful event" (which PTSD is, by definition) you should be given at least a 50% rating for not less than 6 months.

In order to tell you about appeal or getting your low rating fixed, you need to explain where you are in the process. Are you already retired? Was your rating from the VA or the military?

Hello to everyone especially those going through the MEB/PEB process. It seems the services have found a way to waste more money that could be used for us. I am CBWTU-AL living in Memphis, TN area and receiving treatment at Millington Naval Air Station and from civilian practioners for too many things to list. I have started my MEB so guess where they sent me, Ft. Gordon, GA for two weeks. They do MEB at the MNAS or if they just could not find a way to think outside the box and let the navy do it they could have sent me to Ft Campbell, two hours from home. However it does not matter if you have a MEB facility across the street from where you live only who the command center is for the CBWTU assigned. Oh and by the way it does not matter if you make an IG complaint against your providers at CBWTU, all that does is piss them off and they find little ways to screw with you like not paying your travel advance on time or correctly, or not forwarding your original paperwork while they "seminar" in Vegas. Still not bitter, this is still the greatest country in the world, worth fighting for and worth dying for, even still. Good luck to all.

Hello everyone,
I'm an Army wife of 4 years, although my husband has been in for almost 9. April of 08 he was VSI in Iraq and has been recovering at BAMC in Texas. He started his MEB in February and I'm trying to get info on everything that needs to be done so we can push things through a little faster and get back home to Tennessee before I give birth in July.
Thanks so much for having this site. It has been so helpful and pretty much eliminated all the phone calls we would have had to make (not to mention the time we would waste being put on hold!). Good luck to all who are on here looking for answers.

jajora,

Welcome, it is good to have you here! I am sorry to hear of your husband's injuries and am grateful for his sacrifices. I am also glad to hear we have been helpful. Best of luck with the outcome of his PEB and with his recovery. Also, congratulations on the upcoming addition to your family.

Hi Everyone,
Looking for answers.
I'm a Recruiter in the ARNG on ADSW orders, waiting on an AGR Board.
I was treated by a Civilian Hospital and Dr for rapid heart beats over 240 per minute in Jan 2009. The Hospital reported that bloodwork indicated a heart attack and a Cardiac Ablation was performed. The Army Dr. informed (Fit For Duty),but with a Temp P3 pending MEB Eval. Scheduled to attend AGR board when I return, but my NCOIC informed me I can not go AGR w/a P3.
My questions:Can they Terminate ADSW orders & send me back to an M-Day status? (Per NCOIC) What can MEB do? Do I collect Works Comp or Unemployment? Is a Heart Attack & Cardiac Ablation enough for Medical Discharge? I have been on ADSW for 1 year. LOD occured Jan 2009.
Should I get an Attorney? I want to stay active.
Please advice as What I should do or expect. My Chain of Command is all about the Recruiting and not about taking care Soldiers.
Thanks

As you were on ADSW orders longer than 30 days you should go through the MEB/PEB process this includes being kept on orders during the process

Thanks for the info.
Do you have a Reg that backs that up?
I have a feeling that my command will try to send me back to M-Day after over a year of Recruiting.
They are losing recruiting slots due to the Economy and they might try 2 use my situation 2 justify it.
Thanks

Thanks for this site it is very informative. I wish I would have found it back in 04 when I went through the MEB process. However, I found the answer to my current question - is the VA going to recover the severence pay I was paid after being seperated after 4 years on the TDRL?

New Question- I was given a TSGLI payment for a Combat traumatic injury, is this taxable. Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have been surfing around the forum for a week now and getting caught up on this whole process. I just want to thank you all for the information. I have not found another site that has been able to give me as much info as, and understandably as here. I will post my situation in its own thread to keep out the clutter.
Thanks again,
Jeremy
