CRSC Timeline

Same for me. Just a blank page.

I just received my CRSC award letter and I just want to throw some info out there that might help some of you guys out.
The best advice I can give is that once you get your VA award letter and decide to submit your CRSC paperwork go and see a VFW or AL rep. I went to the VFW rep on post (Ft Campbell) and he guided me through the process. The paperwork that we put together were the VA determination letter, DA 199, DD 214, CAB award, and NCOER's during deployments.
The last piece of paperwork was something that only the VA rep had access too. He was able to access the VA system and pull up the VA board determination paperwork, where like your award letter it will list in the What We Decided paragraph the Medical Description, Percent Assigned and Effective Date. The thing is that on that paperwork it will have a forth block that will list the Cause of Medical Condition. In my case it listed Combat Related. The rep told me that the VA board will determine your injuries Combat Related if it meets the criteria set forth by CRSC (Armed Conflict, Hazardous Duty, An Instrumentality of War, Simulated War). He stated that in all actuality you would only have to submit DD Form 2860, DD214, DA Form 199 and your VA Award Letter to HRC. All the other paperwork is just padding.
My CRSC application was received by HRC on Apr, 5 2013 and I received the award letter May, 23 2013. So for the Army it was quick turnaround.

If you are in the Ft. Campbell area and have on post privileges go talk to VFW rep Nick Seat, Bldg 5668, 931-431-5361 or 931-431-0387.

I submitted my CRSC packet and it was received on 29 April 2013 I called for a status update on 22 May they told me that it was completed. What I don't understand is they told me that it would be 15 days before I get my decision letter. Why so long just to mail me a letter. They also told me I could log into HRC and it should be on there. Of course it's not. I can't complain to much though but still trying to plan financially...

It takes a while. After CRSC makes the decision, they send you the letter, as well as DFAS. DFAS then has to audit it before they pay. After DFAS pays you, it then goes to the VA. The VA has to audit it. After they are done, they send you back pay for the time you should have been collecting VA and DOD.

All in all, the process was pretty smooth. As you say, the communication sucks a bit, but it worked out in the end.

Hey Ranger any updates to this tread... your last post was Jan 2013... surly you have been paid and worked out the details by now of the Back Pay???

I got my first monthly payment on Feb 1. I was back paid by DFAS about a week before that. I got back pay from the VA in the first part of March. Been coming in every month like clockwork.

I'm so angry. I called 22 May to check on the status of my CRSC packet. I was told that it was complete and it should be uploaded to IPERMS by Tuesday 28 May. Needless to say its still not uploaded. I called today and I was informed that the person I spoke with last week was wrong and my packet is still being reviewed. I feel I am getting the run around. Is there anything I can do?

Be patient! If they are reviewing it, you are getting close. You still have some time to go. After they complete it, the decision letter goes to DFAS and they have to audit it. That took about three weeks. If you are owed VA backpay, that takes another month or so for them to get that done.

The more you call, the more you are going to aggrevate the situation. You will get back pay for everything you are owed.

In my opinion, this is good and sound insight; no worries, it's all good! ;)

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Check your DFAS My Pay and look for your CRSC Payment Statement. The day I got my award letter and they had stated that they sent a copy to DFAS, I checked My Pay and my first Pay Statement was already in there. I got my award letter on the 23 May and the Pay Statement effective dated was 21 May with a payment date of 31 May. I got my first check 30 May.

So I checked My OMPF this week and seen that I was approved for 70% CRSC. I called DFAS and spoke with them to figure out what 70% dollars wise meant for me. The all seamed confused about what the dollar amount would be and couldnt give me any answers.

I retired from the Army at 10 years of service as an E-5. Is there anyone out there that could tell me what I will be getting monthly from CRSC.

I am thrilled that my paperwork and claim process is almost complete. This all started December 3, 2009 and it is nearing its end.

How long after your claim closed did it take to get the latter needed to send to CRSC? Claim closed today, can see the verification. Of 100% on ebenifits, but I need the full packet to finish filing for CSRC, I say finish filing because I never got the "can't file with proposed rating" memo when I retired.

I got the ratings in the mail a few days after my claim closed. It did not take long at all.

I am 100% t&p army medically retired since July 2009. I was an Sgt. I did 7 years. I was at 90% until oct 2014. I am being paid crsc at 50% at $417 a month since mar 2012. I received a letter from HRC in January 2017. It stated that I should have been 60% crsc July 2009-oct 2010 and 70% from nov 2010-present. I called DFAS and apparently it is in an audit since Jan 23, 2017. I am trying to figure out if I am owed any back pay and if so, how much should I expect. Can anyone help? I don't understand the calculations for this

The best thing going is to use DFAS's own calculator.

https://www.dfas.mil/militarymembers/woundedwarrior/disabledretireest.html

The only thing you need to calculate yourself is high-3 calculation. You're going back pretty far, so it might take some work, but with an accurate high-3 number, you should get a very accurate number once you've plugged everything in.

It's the average of your base monthly pay, the last 3 years of service. It is not your base pay at separation, you have to average each of the last 36 months.

You'll need to know your dates of rank, and years in service, and go through the pay charts applicable to your years. DFAS website has all years pay charts.

Do they go off of what it is not as an E-5 with 7 yos or what it was in 2009 when they retired me(July 09,2009).

I honestly haven't looked that deep into it, as I intend to apply immediately after separation; I never thought how it might affect someone who hasn't applied for 10 years. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me replies to confirm.

First and foremost, if there is back-pay for CRSC, the back pay would be calculated at the rates when you separated. But over time, it'd be adjusted. I assume (only assumption) the adjustments would be based on the retired COLA adjustments, not on the active duty pay charts. So, your high-3 at your separation is based on active duty pay charts while you were in. After separation, the adjustments would be based on COLA, not on the active duty pay charts.

Hope that makes sense, and again, I'm making some assumptions.
