Here is what my NARSUM and C&P says, Epilepsy-80%, cluster headaches-50%, cognitive disorder NOS-?(couldnt find it) all service connected unacceptable. What's the combined percent possible just from the first two?

Those two would give you 90.
Look at it like a fotball field. You start with 100 yards to go if the first play gets you 80 yards you have 20 to go, if you get 50% of that its 10 yards for 90 yards total if your next play you get 20% of the 10 yards left its only 2 yard. Etc.

One of the best analogies I've seen. Bob

NOS = Not Otherwise Specified

Do you mean DA 199 and not NARSUM. The NARSUM does not provide percentages.

And Twitch, that is a great analogy!

I would love to take credit, but I have read similar elsewhere.

The military is compensating you for the loss of your industrial and social abilities caused by the disabilities. If you are compensated 50 percent for one disability, than an additional 20 percent disability rating is compensating you based on the remaining 50 percent. 20 percent of 50 percent is 10 percent. So this would leave the military with 40 percent of the whole person to compensate. And additional 20 percent disability rating would be 20 percent of 40 percent, or 8. That is rounded up to 10 percent, which would give the soldier a total rating of 70 percent.

What evidence did you show to get 50% for cluster headaches? I was diagnosed by a neurologist with them and I can't get the VA to rate it.

Was it in your military medical records? If not then they won't rate them.

What VA hospital are you working with?!?!? You seem to have nothing but problems with that place.

I had my C&P at the Wiley VA in Columbus OH. The neuro doctor stated I had migraines and tbi, but the regional VA in Cleveland refused to rate either. I even have neurological testing for my TBI to prove it and had internal hemorrage (bleeding) in my brain from the concussion.

Cleveland is awful.

Oh and I called them about 6 times about if they had my medical records. My rating paperwork showed that they "never" received my medical records from Minot AFB. I had them send it October 2011, same time I received my copy. They said they never got them. (Or they lost/misplaced them more like it) They NEVER told me!!! Even after I inquired about it half a dozen times! And they never called or emailed me as stated from my inquiries that they would within 2 weeks after each inquiry. They then had my hard copy of records sent to them, probably due to my age and all the issues I have.

I have had nothing but issues with them.

Wow, I wish we had a VA rep on here to help with your case. Anyone have an idea to help Amy?

Wrong quote, I got the system down pat and can do it on the fly now, but your explanation was the one I saw first and hence why I use the football one now, flows better and folks understand football lol.

Wow, I started some rabbit trails With this thread, lol. Sorry bout not spelling out the NOS, and I have not made it to the 199 yet I was just commenting on how the 2 matched on the NARSUM. Dang good explaination of that scale brother! 90 is what I thought I guess I got confused yesterday.
Amy
cluster headaches are called "suicide headaches" for a reason, poeple have killed themselves because of them. They are not a migraine, i hear migraine are bad and I don't wish them on no one but this is nerve pain. Its exactly like sucking down a 64 oz slushie and the brain freeze not stopping for 3 hours. Go to one of my favorite support groups clusterheadaches.com and check it out. Thank god oxygen has helped me some, they are definitely frequent and completely prostrating or as my NARSUM also put it incapacitating. When you have 3 to 9 attacks a day it gets pretty bad, can't tell when they hit comes on in a flash and stops the same way. That's why them EVIL bastards had better be %50. You need to get lawyers and an ombudsman To look at ur stuff. Hope u get straightened out.

I know how you feel. I was diagnosed with cluster headaches by 2 doctor my neurologist and neuro surgeon, due to nerve damage in my neck for several discs and nerve damage at serveral locations causing daily headaches. I know exactly what you mean. Headaches so bad you feel like it's your worst hangover ever, but you didn't drink. For me my biggest issue is noises kill me when I have my headaches. Like a dripping faucet would make me scream.

I don't know why they won't except the diagnosis...

Sorry. Didn't mean to take over your thread. I was just trying to find out how or what you gave them to get a rating on your cluster headaches. Since my dx was not good enough.

Congrats on your 90% rating!!!

The headaches thing is so varied it seems,
My chief who was medicated for migraines for his last 3 years, just never complained enough to go home cause he could close his door and grab a nap or just leave only got 10%, another young lady on here got 30% and she had never been prescribed bed rest, she just filled it in on the C/P exam on how many days missed. ( she was diagnosed and medicated for them, but not frequently quartered for them), I have a diagnosis of tension headaches and have received nerve ablations (occipital) for them, but I do not even bother calling the hospital because we do not have any type of sick call, So we shall see how mine get rated. I truly believe in your case, if you can muster the cash/afford the time or loss, get civilian counsel and fight some more.
