Breakdown of the MEB process for reserve component?

I was wondering if anyone can provide somewhat of a breakdown or explanation of the MEB process specifically for the reserve components.

I am in the Army National Guard and was referred to a fitness for duty evaluation. The provider there said he was recommending me as "unfit" and that I would be going to the board. Then was given a paper where I could choose to take the immediate separation or elect to go enter the PDES. I am wanting to elect to enter the PDES but I am not sure how all of this works.

Will I receive a NARSUM from the fitness for duty evaluation? Or is that something that happens in the next stages of the PDES? Just trying to better comprehend how all of this works and what to expect so that I can go into this process as knowledgable as possible.

PDES - meaning pre-IDES I'm guessing. It's the phase where your packet is assembled by the unit level MSC in the
S-1. It's extremely important that you ensure all your documents and diagnosis are correct. If there is an LOD it will be the primary document. And for any issue missing an LOD it will be an IDRM. Once those go through and are finalized then you'll get put into the IDES process.

I'm assuming since they tried to separate you that these are non-duty related or are they duty related issues? That will greatly affect how things go.

FYI - The army guard has an MSC. The Army reserve does not. And the VA does have an MSC that is completely different and unrelated to the Army MSC.

On the paperwork they gave me, it says PDES is physical disability evaluation system, so I guess basically the same thing? and yes, non-duty related

Gotcha, yes basically. LDES is the old system and IDES is the updated version that better protects service members. In my state we unofficially say pre-DES or pre-IDES to describe the process of building the case before entering IDES.

How many total years do you have?
How many active duty years?

Do you know that non-duty means you will be separated without dod military retirement? It does not preclude you from applying to the VA for benefits.

If it is appropriate to your case that it could be service connected or duty related, it behooves you greatly to fight for that.

I am just about to hit my 3 year mark. The only active duty time was when I went thru TRADOC. I do not believe that there is any way for me to fight for this to be duty related. Ultimately, I want to be found fit and I've been told that it may be easier to do if I go the non-duty route

Tracking... I would suggest getting an outside medical opinion to support your desire to be found fit. Also, the commanders letter is another thing that could help. Its a step in the process. Make sure your CMD knows that you want to be found fit and ask them to write their letter supporting that. Basically, you must show that you can do your specific job and are deployable. Good luck
