Hi,
So the purpose of me writing here is to see if there is any actual point in me putting in an application for AFROTC. I have an appointment for my physical to attach to my application this coming week.
I'm an Army Veteran, I'm out of my IRR time frame, and I'm currently attending a university that has an AFROTC program. I have a VA disability and some stuff in my medical records that I fear will be disqualifying. I'm 28 and have had postpartum depression twice now with each of my children, which is in my record. I had a torn hip labrum (no hip dislocations of any sort) in the Army and I ended up getting a P3 a month before I ETS'd which did approx. nothing for me as I never had a med board of any sort start. I was married to another service member at the time and got my hip fixed at the same hospital under his tricare since the surgery was already scheduled before I ETS'd. Since the surgery in 2016 I am able to run and jump and have a very good range of motion in my hip.
On my DD214 I have an RE code of 1. I've had no other medical problems since. I haven't been on antidepressants in a while (my youngest born in 2019 and I subsequently had postpartum depression which has since resolved). I have a very high GPA, I'm very motivated, and I have no criminal background (not even traffic violations). Getting out of the military is one of my biggest regrets.
It would be a literal dream come true if I were able to commission in the Air Force. I'm currently pursuing my Bachelors in Nursing.
I also am very afraid of being rejected all together and if I am rejected, I'm also afraid of possibly losing my VA compensation for attempting to commission, which wouldn't be a problem if I did commission.
I know that any red flags in your medical will be sent to DoDMERB for evaluation.
