my crsc timeline

i called today and i was told pretty much to wait the 120 day and maybe it will be finish. I've past 120 day along time ago but she told me well it can take longer. i asked how much longer and she said not to quote her but another 120 days. i ask for any type of explanation and she could not give me one. i knew i wasn't getting anywhere with her so i said ok goodbye. That was Deborah BTW. i called back and waited for another rep. i got Melissa this time and she was a bit more helpful and put in another inquiry to what maybe the hold up. i asked about what my last inquiry might have said because i had one from Dec. She could not find anything on it. Nothing of it and only that my audit was in review. I am frustrated that no one knows anything. You think you're close only to be told to wait longer because you're back in review.
I had deborah as a rep before and has never been helpful. Forgot other reps names but Melissa seemed to be helpful or at least provide more info into the matter.
I think they may keep a better phone log of us than they do of what is really going on and what we call about.

New update today. Apparently i have been approved and put on the next payroll. There seems to be a weekly payroll. I was told, have read on other forums and this one that CRSC retro are out of cycle payments. Which i was understanding that they could hit on any day at anytime. I don't think that is the case as i was told that I'm on this weeks payroll or next weeks. This weeks payroll is Jan. 16th. Whether or not the amount I'm thinking or came up with will be correct i will find out soon i Hope.

I called DFAS again this morning, and had another escalation input. I was also told to call back next Monday if nothing has changed.

Just thinking out loud here...

I wonder if the "another escalation input" is simply a notice electronically pinned to the account showing concern by the retiree has been expressed. Obviously, I do not know.

Yes, most CRSC retro payments, if not all, are made out of cycle. That means they are made upon completion of the preliminary processing.

From what I was told last week, it elevates the priority of processing.

For us that need dumbing down. What is the preliminary processing?
I understood “out of cycle” as once it was approved and put in system the money goes into my account. Whether it be 8am or 5pm. Once they hit enter.
im just updating to give the next person an idea of what’s going on. Which has been confusing and frustrating.

Regarding my term, "preliminary processing": everything that precedes the payment.

I agree with your remark about confusing and frustrating.

Were you aware that there were payroll cycles? This is the first I’ve known about it. Everywhere I’ve read I did not read about a weekly payroll. When I got the call from DFAS he said I would either be in this week’s payroll or next week’s payroll. And that this week’s payroll is on the 16th.
Now I wonder is it throughout the day or are they release in the morning?

Simple Deduction: If some payments are made out of cycle, then other payment processing exists.

Recommend you discuss this with DFAS.

Good luck,
Ron

Yea, I have no idea too.

But I’ll call in the morning if I don’t see anything deposited.

Also I checked MyPay and no change at all.

Ohh...i have an idea about out of cycle payments. I have received CRSC (and occasionally CRDP instead) since 2006. I received several out of cycle payments. The point being, if one is paid out of cycle, there is payment completion before the end of a particular month. I have also participated in hundreds of discussions similar to those in this thread.

I also was part of this group:
[Stars and Stripes]
Military update: DFAS: Error left thousands of military retirees out of Retro Pay
As many as 39,000 disabled military retirees have been left out of the VA Retro Pay program by mistake, say officials at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service who are calculating the amount of money owed.

This latest and perhaps most serious gaffe in the problem-plagued VA Retro Pay project was uncovered after DFAS received a rising number of complaints from retirees. None had been screened for retroactive payment, but follow-up calculations confirmed that each had been underpaid.

VA Retro payments have ranged from a few hundred dollars to many thousands, depending on individual circumstance. All recipients have served in the military for 20 or more years and all have disabilities that qualified them for one of two relatively new disabled retiree entitlements: Combat-Related Special Compensation, which began in 2003, or Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay, which started in 2004.

The VA Retro Pay project began to identify retirees for lump-sum back payments in September 2006. The project became necessary because of difficulties in calculating initial payments to retirees under CRSC and CRDP, complex plans voted by Congress to begin to lift the ban on concurrent receipt of both military retirement and disability compensation. First up were to be full career retirees with combat-related injuries or severe disabilities.

Note: CRSC initially required 20 years AD.

I just called DFAS again and did learn the review has thirty days to complete, and they have seven days to respond to an escalation.

Still no luck with mine thou.

Im referring to having no idea that there was a payroll cycle as it seems only once a week, which for this week is today the 16th, Thursday. Whether they are all on Thursday i don't think so because I've read others receive their CRSC Retro payments on monday and friday. But I THINK CRSC Retro Payment Payrolls are once a week not throughout.
My other question i have no idea about was the time they release these payments. Whether it be in the morning or just throughout the day.

I got a call stating that my CRSC "passed'. That's the word he (the rep who called from DFAS) used. Just trying to give as much info as i get. I thought it was APPROVED but the reps used the word PASSED.

UPDATE.
I received a call from DFAS about my CRSC Retro Pay Audit. He told me he was the one who passed my CRSC Retro Audit. He also gave me my amount and when i should expect it.

The amount "I" calculated was
# of months x the current amount I'm receiving
I was close without factoring in COLA and whatever else they calculate into it. My amount was over but in the ball park.
But what i didn't expect was that the amount i was receiving would be split between DFAS and VA. The split was about 60% DFAS and 40% VA (estimated not exact percentage).

The calculation included the full 72 months (6yr limit for CRSC retro pay) that i was owed.

CRSC Payroll USED TO BE twice a month as the rep said but have switched to it being ONCE a week.

i did not make this weeks payroll but should be on next weeks payroll which is early next week.

Will update when I actually do get payment.

SFC13B i remember got his on a MONDAY but maybe due to his bank allowing early pay it maybe always on Thursday. He received it on a Monday which was the 24th of DEC. due to the holidays his bank may have released it early.

This is just what I Think and trying to help others understand the process of a CRSC retro Audit.

Re: "But what i didn't expect was that the amount i was receiving would be split between DFAS and VA. The split was about 60% DFAS and 40% VA (estimated not exact percentage)."

This is common, especially in cases involving multiple years.

From DFAS:
"Retroactive Payment
In addition to monthly CRSC payments, you may be eligible for a retroactive payment. DFAS will audit your account to determine whether or not you are due retroactive payment. An audit of your account requires researching pay information from both DFAS and VA. "

There are so many possible scenarios that it is impractical to try to determine the payments from each without having a clear picture.

The DFAS audit sheet will outline the sources/reasons for the totals. Hopefully, they have improved upon their former Byzantine presentation.

Good job in keeping other retirees informed.

Congrats!

Ron

Well based upon my call this morning, I didn't expect to see a CRSC backpay statement today was just checking to see if next month was posted yet and it was there. It should be paid on 21 Jan

I just checked MyPAY as well and it is under CRSC Pay Statements not Annual or Changed RAS or other, one amount with Payment Date.

Date is the 21st as well. Which I'm wondering since i get paid a day earlier with USAA and Monday a Federal Holiday that funds maybe available tomorrow.

Thats what's at the bottom of CRSC STATEMENT.

This is your CRSC Retroactive Statement.
Please refer to DFAS.mil for information about CRSC and this statement.

Glad to hear you finally got some clarification Berto.morgan and are finally getting paid!

I just got off the phone with DFAS as well and was now told they are backed up and that my review could take 90 days. Last week I was told 60 days, three weeks prior to that I was told 30 days. I'm over this crap and I give up with this process. I am already over 150 days and if the 90 days stays true, I'll be over double the 120 day time frame they claim it is supposed to take. I asked why and was given the million dollar answer that all she can tell me is that it could be another 90 days. When asked why the multiple changes in time frames I was told that the last two people I spoke to must not have known what they were talking about or weren't aware of the 90 day window.

Sorry, rant over, just needed to vent!
