When Am I Found Unfit? So Unclear Right Now!

Can someone please let me know when I am actually found unfit during this process? My PEBLO gave me a cookie-cutter answer basically saying my case should be completed by the end of June (package sent to AFPC 1 Feb 13). I have heard of many individuals receiving word of their fit or unfit status weeks after sending their package to AFPC. As well as being informed through each step of the process. Sounds like she will tell me when it is completed without providing any information along the way. My VA MSC also told me the e-benefits website is not reliable in regards to the IDES process, so contact my PEBLO for any unfitting information. It has been a vicious circle of "I don't know" and "contact [insert person/organization here] for further information".

I think the most frustrating thing about this process is they are not going through it, so they do not know what you have riding on the information you are requesting. How are you supposed to focus on moving forward if you do not know if/when to start moving forward. They really do not take any of this into account when blowing you off. I just wish there were more transparency within this process for the member versus relying on someone else to provide the information to you.

My apologies for the soapbox speech, but it is not good business to keep someone hanging out there when they have to prepare for this involuntary departure from the service.

The PEB generally determines fitness within 5-10 business days of receiving MEB packet. Then, the PEB will send email notification to your PEBLO of that determination. And your PEBLO should notify you immediately upon receiving.
 
Idk my peblo said they were told they don't give it to you anymore. I needed a copy for cif. He gave it t me. That's coming from head peblo.
 
Well, you can merely use deductive reasoning if your PEBLO refuses to inform you (which I don't believe is SOP)...'if PEB has forwarded case to VA, then I am unfit'...'if PEBLO calls and says you've been determined fit and return to duty, then PEB has said fit'....
 
I guess that's where my frustration lies. Why would it not be beneficial to keep the member informed through the process. If anything, it would keep the member's mind at ease that the process is moving along. Instead, I'm told to standby until the final ruling comes down. B.S.

At what step in e-benefits will it tell me that. I just didn't want to guess at knowing I was found unfit and it really wasn't the case. HELP!

Okay, so I talked to a VA rep on the phone this morning and she gave me some pretty good information. My package was sent to AFPC on 1 Feb 13 and it was forwarded to Providence, RI on 14 Feb 13. Unfitting, correct? Was given an average of 4 months for my package to be completed. Hopefully, this step and the final steps are complete by June. I'll keep you all posted!

It's good news to hear that you have an updated status of your IDES case. :)

By the way, CIF means "Central Issue Facility" within the US Army.

Hey, my package was sent to RI as well and I have no idea if that means unfit or not. I asked my peblo and she told me she has not heard anything. I understand your stress and feel it myself. I want to find out the unfit information to plan for the future and start applying for jobs. If you have heard anything, please let me know or if anyone else can shed some light on this, please do. Thanks
 
My MEB was sent to the PEB on 28th JAN 13 and i never received an unfit memo or anything like what other people get. I'm Air Force too so it could just be service specific thing though i've heard of Air Force members getting unfit memos. As i said before my MEB package was sent to the PEB on 28th JAN and on Ebenefits my claim was closed under historical on 18 Mar 13 also sent to the RI office. I called VA to confirm this and they said that my proposed ratings were sent to PEB on 14 MAR 13.. good luck
 
Thank you Glocky79 and Ben&Dee for the replies. Glocky79, I wanted the unfit information for the same reason; to lean forward with job searches and lining my family up. I still have not heard anything from my PEBLO regarding my status (fit vs unfit) so it may be the norm for Air Force personnel. I will keep you all posted on any changes for my MEB. Take care!

I wouldn't want you to get specific on your case, but how many items were being rated to have proposed ratings back so quickly. I was told minimum 4 month turnaround from RI.
 
I was told that as well, but I have also read that the rtd, sep w/severance, permanent medical, and temp medical determination only takes a couple weeks. The rest of that four months is the VA rating each condition, but I could be wrong here. The reason the determination is important to me is like PMT_UTM said, we can make plans and get our families ready because we would know for sure we will be out. Without this info we are stuck in limbo wondering "what if they keep me".

I'm being rated for a total of 14 claims.. There's another guy that has virtually the same time line as me and just got 40% PDRL..

I think I should be right around that same timeline. My package was sent to the PEB on 1 Feb and I'm being rated for 15 claims (3 proposed unfitting and 12 additional). I'm definitely not trying to rush the process, just wish it was more transparency.
 
i agree.. i'm in no rush at all. I'm in japan and my daughter wont finish school till 14 june so if the 90 day timeline starts when you sign i'm hoping it work out so she can finish here.
 
If the VA indicates that your proposed ratings were sent to the PEB, you have been found unfit. The VA does not send anything out unless requested (or required via procedure). So, if the VA sent the PEB your ratings, this means that the PEB requested them. The PEB wouldn't request your ratings unless you have conditions which they (PEB) deem unfitting.

In re to the VA or PEBLO keeping us updated...as much as we want to believe differently- we are just a numer to most in this process and, to some, a "problem" because they would have to actually WORK to research and pass along any updates. So, if anybody here is planning on becoming a PEBLO after they leave the service, remember what it was like to be treated poorly and ensure that you do things differently and try to affect change.

Unfortunately you will need to ask your PEBLO if try can forward you a copy if your unfit memo. Basically once you receive your 3947 with all of the referred conditions (you would have had to have signed it). Your MEB packet is forwarded to the PEB (there will be a preliminary unfit memo drafted) and your case will be forwarded to the DRAS (VA Disability Team) the VA will do their ratings and send your case back to the PEB.

The PEB is what determines you fit or unfit for service, you should have a pretty good idea based upon the conditions on your 3947 and the Code of Federal Regulations.

When you get your 199, review it carefully because you may need to ask for a VA reconsideration if you feel the proposed ratings are not in line with what you feel your conditions are.

The VASRD is the guideline that is used to determine the ratings, some conditions are crystal clear as to what the rating should be and others have quite a bit of factors to consider. Get together with your Veterans Service Orginization (DAV, American Legion, etc) and have them review your 199. You may want to consider getting a lawyer to assist you, the office of the soldiers counsel is their, however they may not put the energy into your specifics that could be required.

After all of this, the bottom line is that nobody can tell you when your case will be finished, every case is different and none take the same amount of time/energy. Your best bet is to be prepared for separation, as if it were to take p,ace tomorrow. If you have any leave (hopefully you do) use that as a guideline of how many days you have to prepare for separation after the decision is made by the PEB.
