I have 10 years in USMC Active Duty

I have been seeing at behavioral health for the over two years while being seeing initially for work stresses due to the nature of my job. I went through a sexually assaulted in 2012 and after I was placed on limited duty for chronic PTSD and Major Depression the first time. My second period of limited duty was for chronic PTSD, Major Depression, and Ankle Instability which ends this month. I did a partial inpatient treatment for PTSD and they added adjustment disorder in anyways once I got back my doctor at behavioral health didn't feel like my symptoms are not improving with the continued therapy and medication in which I agree. I was referred to a PEB for adjudication. Symptoms are a result of non-combat related traumatic event in 2012.

I am just wondering what to expect?

Sorry to hear you had to go through that. As for your question, It all depends on the social impact symptoms you suffer. Go into the VASRD and look at mental conditions and see where you feel like you fall. Nobody is going to be able to tell you until you have had a BH exam by the VA. On the exam there will be a "social impact" statement. This more than anything is what is used for ratings

You also have to consider you could be found fit by the PEB as well, and the above ratings would not come into affect.

I'm a little confused and need some guidance.

My case was referred to a Physical Evaluation Board 12 February 2014 for one diagnosis of PTSD which I was diagnosed on 1st May 2012 by my provider at behavioral health, the referral was received on the 19th of February 2014 by the physical evaluation board case worker, and I had my counseling done by my PEBLO on 21st of February 2014 and my second diagnosis of Ankle Instability which I have been dealing with since November 10th 2011 was added on to my referral as well on the 21st February 2014, by my military primary care provider based off my treatment I had been receiving from my civilian pediatric surgeon.

I got notification online that my medical board case has been referred to the PEB for action on 26th February

My command just got the paperwork to start my non-medical assessment on 27th of February.

I just got notification online that my medical board case has been accepted by the PEB for action on the 3rd of March

I am still waiting for the summary of my second diagnosis of ankle instability to come from my civilian pediatric surgeon so my military primary care provider can do up a summary based on the what the civilian doctor who has been treating me writes up, I should be done by my civilian doctor on 13th March 2013.

I had a meeting with my VA Military Service Coordinator scheduled for today 3rd of March, which I was unable to make due to inclement weather.

Where I’m confused because I haven’t even been to the VA for the examination or had one scheduled yet, I’m still waiting on my command to finish up the non-medical assessment which they just got the paper work, and I’m waiting on the summary from my pediatric surgeon. What happens next?

Are you sure that the notifications are not saying "refferal to IDES" or "MEB"? Your next step after your meeting with the MSC today will be VA C&P exams, and then waiting for a NARSUM from the MEB. Once that's done your stuff goes to PEB.

Joe

The MSC will review all of your military medical records and start the IDES claim. The IDES claim will have your referred conditions (conditions that the Navy feels make you unfit) and claimed conditions (any disability that you have incurred or has been aggravated by military service).

You had mentioned that after your inpatient treatment you were diagnosed with both PTSD and Chronic Adjustment Disorder. If the PEB tries to find you unfit for CAD or you feel you are being mislabeled, do not worry about it or be stressed out.

Both CAD and PTSD are subsets of Anexity disorder, and as far as the military is concerned, they are diagnosed by the particular stressor that has catalyzed the issue.

From what I have been reading in the press lately, PTSD is being thought of as a condition that is temporary and that through therapy substantial recovery can be made.

Supporting this thought is how the PEB categorizes PTSD as a temporary condition (on the guise of it not being stable). And it is subjected to the TDRL.

Thanks. I just had my meeting with my MSC today. He did inform me that they normally TDRL for PTSD and then they do a reevaluation. I'm hoping to get my VA appointments schedule Monday or Tuesday. My fitness for duty will be based on Post traumatic depressive disorder and Ankle instability-Left.

I got the summary from for my ankle from my doctor for the medical board in his opinion even with surgery to correct my ankle instability with a likelihood of only being 75% of full recovery after surgical healing of about 3 months. Which I wasn't happy to read but I guess 75% recovery is better than where my ankle is at now. I just hope to be able to run with my kids without the fear that walking on even a pebble will cause my ankle to give out, it's depressing to deal with.

The stuff I am also claiming through the VA is
Varicose veins
Dry eye syndrome
Bilateral knee condition
Sciatica
Gerd
Rhinitis
Lumbago
Right ankle condition

I got a copy of my C&P final report for my exams what am I looking for?

Okay, good deal indeed! :)

Initially, I would read the entire DoVA C&P final report page-by-page to obtain a thorough comprehension of the information as annotated. Then, I would highlight all verbiage which is not accurate or contradicts what you believe is accurate.

With that all said, you can obtain a general idea of what the potential DoVA D-RAS rating(s) could be as based upon the summary sections then match it with the criteria within the VASRD for each of your medical conditions.

If you notice "any" information within the DoVA C&P final report that is not medically accurate, please seek PEB Legal Office assistance immediately upon the receipt of your written PEB official documentation.

Lastly, please remain "positive proactive" while within the DoD IDES PEB process to ensure that you are awarded all of your entitled military disability compensation for sure! Take care and continue to enjoy life!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

This is what I found

Remarks:

The SMs symptoms meet DSM 5 criteria for PTSD. Her symptoms have made her unable to do her job and she has had difficulty in school. She has cut herself off from many of her friends and is now less motivated and has difficulty interacting with her family. She reports significant panic attacks and hyperventilate when she goes shopping and tries to avoid leaving her house when possible.

I also got an notification from my PEBLO that I was found unfit and should get my results of my MEB in 20-24 weeks.

From my experiences within the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process, your aforementioned verbiage as annotated on the DoVA C&P final report seems DSM V criteria supportive and not contradictory in reference to PTSD symptomatology.

That said, I believe the DoVA D-RAS should rate your PTSD medical condition accurately in accordance with the VASRD and any additional medical evidence within your DoD IDES case file.

Moreover, I hope that your PEBLO stated that your PEB results should be available within 2 to 4 weeks versus 20 to 24 weeks? -> Take care and continue to enjoy life! :)
