What is the max possible CRSC in my case?

I'm trying to figure out what disabilities I should apply to CRSC. Some are cut and dry cases, others not so much, so I hope the cut and dry cases will be enough to max out my CRSC.

1. Gross retired pay on my DFAS RAS: 5342.00
2. DoD disability percentage: 70%
3. Active Duty time: 12 years, 0 months, 21 days (June has 30 days, so I calculate that as 21/30 = .7 months, .7/12 = .0583 years, total time in service = 12.0583 years)
4. VA disability: 100%, 1 spouse and 2 children under 18, $4,072.12
5. Unknown CRSC amount, I'm trying to figure this one out here
6. I am simply medically retired from active duty, but I did opt in to the BRS so my multiplier will be .02 instead of .025

Here's the math that I come up with:

A. 5342.00 / .7 = 7631.43 base pay
B. 12.0583 * .02 = .2412 multiplier
C. 7631.43 * .2412 = 1840.44
D. 5342.00 - 4072.12 = 1269.88 residual retired pay
E. My max CRSC would be 1840.44 - 1269.88 = $570.56

If my max possible CRSC is $570.56, then I would only need to get my 30% disabled skin condition to qualify for CRSC, since 30% disability with spouse and 2 kids is $642.05.

Is my math right?

Hello @TallTree

My rounding is a little different than yours, but your math appears to be accurate. I did not rework the figures.

The combination of residual retired pay and CRSC cannot exceed the longevity amount. Looks good.

The actual approved CRSC percentage and amount would be used if it is less than the longevity in this case. The computation for longevity is still used for a ceiling.
"Actual approved CRSC percentage and amount" = find the percentage in the VA compensation tables and then the column for category and number of dependents.
The combination factor discussed above still applies. Since your residual is so high, it likely will not be a factor.

Good work on your part!

Ron

edited to add example:
a. Longevity amount = 2000
b. Approved CRSC percentage amount in VA tables = 1000
c. The 1000 becomes the CRSC amount and the combination of residual retired pay and CRSC cannot exceed the longevity amount but can be less.

Another example:
d. Longevity amount = 1000
e. Approved CRSC percentage amount in VA tables = 2000
f. The 1000 longevity amount becomes the CRSC amount and the combination of residual retired pay and CRSC cannot exceed the longevity amount but can be less.

Note: In some cases, the residual retired pay itself exceeds any combination and no CRSC is payable.
