weight carried by a rating already held? (NG)

Ok, so I just found out the VA has rated me 50% for PTSD. About eight months start to finish since applying. I am waiting to start an MEB (had MMRB in March).

Question is - does having a diagnosis and rating from the VA carry weight into the MEB? I have no idea if it will be legacy or IDES system. I understand that if under IDES I will be completely re-rated by the VA anyway and the 50% might disappear? How about the new reserve component processing system?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

All MEB/PEB actions at this point should be with IDES. If that is the case the MEB writes the NARSUM using the complete VA exams. The PEB is required by federal law to use the ratings set by the VA in the VASRD. Now for example, the Army will still decide what conditions do not meet retention standards and then only apply the VA's ratings for those conditions. For example if you have hypertension and the conditioned is controlled with the use of a Beta Blocker the VA will rate you at 10% since you require continuing medication to control the condition, but it is not unfitting of retention standards so the Army will discount it. The same is true for Apnea, the VA auto rates you at 50% if you use a CPAP, but the army will just require that you have access to an electrical outlet for your machine and not include it in your NARSUM. Of course you can appeal and I think you should if they try to rate you less than the VA is rating you. So did the VA rate you in response to your MMRB?

No, I filed the same paperwork as for my LOD/profile but a seperate process.

What I am wondering is: Does the rating I already have carry weight when I am rated during the MEB, even if it is by the VA again? Or do they throw out all previous findings and start from zero?

Just seems that so much is subjective based on your examiner, and I feel my 50% rating is pretty accurate.

Thanx...

I can tell you from experience it is not automatic, I was rated 30% from Phila VA for a service connected injury that I filed on my own.

Later I was sent for a MEB/PEB with the NG and was found unfit for duty, sent through the DOD/VA pilot program at Ft Meade. Was then sent to Baltimore VA who changed my rating to 0%.

The Phila VA was not a part of the DOD/VA pilot program so then did not automaticlly take my 30% rating.

I'm now in the appeal process of this.
