VA rater called me today

So, the VA rep at regional that is rating my package called me direct today. Took me by surprise, as I though that all correspondence from the VA goes through the VA MSC, and then to the PEBLO or SM. He needed me to fax him some of the detailed entries in my records (which I thought they had since they have my complete records). I will do anything that I can to help facilitate the speed of my ratings. He said that was all he needed to finish rating me.I had all the data faxed to him within a few hours after hanging up.
I'm glad that he chose to contact me directly rather than going through the wickets...who knows how long it would've been before I found out that he needed the info...
Has anybody else had an experience like this? Just wondering if it is the norm or not.

Sounds like you lucked out with a direct call. Could have added a couple of months otherwise.

This happened to me but it was the person who was suppose to put everything in order prior to the rater. He claimed my records were to large (over 2500 pages) and he could not find what he was looking for. I was out of state at the time and could not send him anything. He called back the next day and said he found the items but they still messed everything up. I'm assuming this is why they think I didn't have the surgery on my wrist and elbow, didn't look through the medical records.

This guy said that he was rating my claim and needed some additional information to complete the rating. He identified himself as a "rater". I have to say that he was the most professional person that I have dealt with through this whole process so far, which I never expected from the experience that I have had in the past when calling the 1-800 number. We actually talked about my claim for about 5-10 minutes and I feel like I had a chance to advocate my data to him rather than him just breezing through my file. Hopefully it helped a bit.

On another note, and I don't know if it is coincidence, but I had heard nothing helpful (from the VA) on my case the whole time it has been at the VA since early May 2012...but I obtained a PoA and submitted to the DAV, and they showed up on Ebenefits on Saturday as my representation. Then I get this call a few days later...wonder if this flags in the system or something and gets them to pay more attention to the file...

Well, I think somebody up above was looking out for me with this phone call...things are happening fast now. The rater finished my rating and had it out to AFPC the same day I faxed the info. Having a chance to discuss my conditions directly with the rater also allowed me to point out certain things that he had not realized.
