VA paycheck

Hello All,

I medically retired from the army as of 23 Jan 19, I had received my proposed ratings from the VA at 90% and dod has me at 30%. its been over 90 days and I have yet to see penny from the VA. I called my PEBLO and my VA rep that were very good to me during my med board process and they both said something must be wrong as and that it shouldn't have taken any longer than 6 - 12 weeks. I keep calling the VA and they say that they have everything that they need from me and to just keep waiting. my online portal on va.gov and e benefits said my case went to decision phase in 13 Feb. Will I get back pay to my exit date from the army? has anyone else waited this long after a MEB PEB ?

Re: Payment of VA compensation

Generally, an individual in a case such as yours will receive VA compensation with an effective date the first day in a retired status. Example: Last day of active duty 22 Jan 19; first day in a retired status 23 Jan 19 usually results in an effective date of 23 Jan 19. However, VA compensation begins to accrue the first day of the month of the month following the retirement month (example: retired 23 Jan 19 = first accrual of VA compensation would be 1-28 Feb 19 and paid on/about 1 Mar 19 if in real time (i.e., not a retroactive payment in this example). The term "real time" is used here to cite a regular scheduled payment, such as many of us have received for years.

Others would be better qualified to answer your other questions as I did not have a disability retirement (although I am familiar with effective dates and their basis).

Good luck,
Ron
