VA package lost in the mail, or PEB dropping the ball. Tips?

Ok so I just finished talking with my PEBLO.

He told me that he called Texas because my package was originally sent out in December, and he told whoever he spoke to that 6 1/2 months with no word was a little ridiculous. She agreed, but said that she hadn't received my package from the VA yet. In the IDES system it says my results were mailed from the VA to the PEB on 9 May(and I also already called and got my ratings in May too).

So could it POSSIBLY take 6 weeks for my package to go from Baltimore to Randolph? Or what do you guys think happened? What should my next step be? My PEBLO told me that he would gladly email the ratings I was given from the VA to them, if I emailed them to him. The problem is, I've looked at them and I'm pretty sure they're different than what are sent to the PEB, because they are addressed to me and not the Air Force.

I'm just really frustrated and annoyed, can anyone give me some tips? Maybe I can call the VA again and ask them to re-mail them to the PEB? Would they even do that?

EDIT: Here's my rough timeline so far, if anyone's interested.

22 Jun '11 - MEB started
17 Oct '11 - Final VA C & P appointment
23 Dec '11 - Package sent to PEB
11 Jan '12 - Package checked into PEB
23 Feb '12 - Package sent to Baltimore
20 Mar '12 - Case sent to Cleveland
29 Mar '12 - Cleveland complete, back to main VA
09 May '12 - VA complete, sent to myself and the PEB
18 Jun '12 - Still waiting...VA ratings not even checked into PEB yet...

Same boat as you. 500 cases eere impacted because sent to clevland VA. Cleveland was supposed to send rating to IpEB but didnt. It took 4 days and a colonel to find mine

I'm in the same boat. Cleveland completed my rating 6 Apr and my MSC showed me the rating dated 6 Apr. Cleveland sent it to Baltimore and I'm still waiting. The Army is saying we never received it. My PEBLO is not even trying to help.

Michigan so did you get your 199 yet.

Tony, I recommend you contact your VA MSC/Military Service Coordinator and ask him/her to get involved. Tell him/her what's going on and request that they help locate your case within the VA and get the results/proposed ratings sent to the IPEB. My case was in limbo for several months after I finally contacted my MSC (acting on a tip I got from someone on this board!), and he got things moving in short order.

Same here. My ratings were applied by the VA on 9 May and still no word. My Commander visited my PEBLO last week and was told that between the VA and IPEB, several records had been misplaced. I guess they finally found them, but of course they are all out of processing order and supposedly they are trying to fit them back into the timeline where they "should" have been processed. No proof my record was one of them, but it sure has me wondering!! Calling my MSC now...maybe they can help me out.

Did your MSC do anything for you? I'm having trouble getting a hold of mine, and I'm starting to freak out. I talked to my PEBLO, and he told me that I am now his oldest case; Cases from February are starting to come back(Mine was sent in December). WTF?! Can someone get me the number to the Air Force PEB? I need to call them.

Tony, my MSC pulled up my VA info and it showed "Awaiting DD214". He told me that VA ratings were applied on 9 May, and that from that point on, it didn't matter if records were lost or not, as everything was then electronic. I then called my PEBLO back and he said that the MSC (local VA dude) was lying to me and that wet signatures were still required. He told me that cases from the week of 13 Feb were starting to come back...mine was submitted 17 Feb. Hoping to hear something in the near future. Regarding a number to the PEB folks...I Googled "PEB Randolph" and found an old document that had their numbers. Not sure if they are still current as I could not get the courage to call them. Good luck, and hope you hear something soon!

Yep, I called the VA Number and the lady told me my VA infor said Awaiting DD214 also. She also said my package showed it was sent to the PEB on 9 May. I told my PEBLO what the VA said, and he told me all the PEB does is review their package for errors, scan it in, and email it to him. My case was submitted in December, so I don't understand what is taking so freaking long? It's almost 8 weeks since the VA was done, and still nothing?

I feel your pain brother! I continually try to tell myself that it could be worse (which it is for a lot of people on here), but at the same time, I ask myself, "why me?" I am confident we will hear something soon and will be able to move forward with what life has to offer. It is very frustrating to say the least, and moreso when you see others who were processed after you getting their results.

Believe it or not, not even 5 minutes after I typed that last post, my PEBLO called me with my results. 30% AF / 80% VA. A lot to consider, being at 18.5 years. Do I try to appeal and stretch it out; do I accept it and move on; or do I accept and apply for LAS??? 10 short days to decide my future. Wish me luck! Recommendations happily accepted!

It is to your great advantage to get to 20 years. Whether you have issues that merit appeal is something I can't know without knowing more about your case. However, appeals in the AF take a long time to process.

Are your conditions combat related?

Jason, I am assuming the great advantage you are speaking of is monetary, correct? My conditions are not combat related. What information can I provide to you regarding my case that will enable you to assist me in my decision? Is it more personal information/preference, or is is actual info from my records/findings that you would need?

Are you familiar with Air Force Limited Assignment Status? I have read the AFI (36-3212) and it really doesn't explain fitness expectations for the SM. My question is: If I am found unfit by the board (which I was) and I accept, am I still expected to maintain physical fitness standards? I am currently on a profile that does not allow me to do the run, push-ups, or sit-ups. In LAS, are you required to do any components of the AF PT Test??

Thanks for the reply, and thanks in advance for any assistance you may be able to provide.

Only if your profile states that you need to conduct an alternate PT event i.e. swimming or bike... It is your responsibility to maintain your weight and body fat, you can still be flagged under the over weight provision and if you fail to meet those standards under the set program they can attempt to chapter for weight standards.

Well, found out yesterday that my package was definitely lost. So I called the VA and asked them to send me exactly what the PEB needs, they sent me the same ratings I received in the mail and also some additional information. I had my PEB email it to my Case Manager at the PEB, and the Case Manager said, quote: "Sorry this is not the full package we get, can't do nothing with this part."

So now according to my PEBLO, the PEB has to re-request the package from the VA. So basically I'm back to where I was on May 9th. SONOFA*****

Ok so on Friday I called the VA and asked them if the PEB had contacted them on getting the package resent. The VA rep told me that the last time anyone has contacted them on my case was when I had called and gotten faxed the results in the middle of June!! What the hell!?!?

So I was trying to remain calm, (and the lady on the phone was VERY helpful, to her credit) and I asked her if she could re-mail the package to the PEB. She read back to me exactly the note she was putting on my account, and that she'd have it re-mailed to the PEB, the MSC, and to me. Then she told me that it may take up to a MONTH for it to be re-mailed, because of how backed up the Regional Office is! So does that mean I'll be waiting another month for the results to get to the PEB, and then 2 more weeks for the PEB to do their magic, and then I'll have to wait to get my orders for who knows how long after that?

My PEBLO has told me that people who's cases were sent out over 2 months after mine already have orders in hand! I know of at least one personally who has already gone to a formal board and back, AND gotten orders, and both our VA ratings were completed in the same week!!

I'm not sleeping anymore, and I'm having an impossible time focusing on ANYTHING work-related with all this stress going on. What can, and what should I do?

Tony_D,
My VA ratings were sent to the PEB on May 21, I have yet to hear from them. I put in an IRIS to the VA three weeks ago and I got a reply stating that on July 3 a second copy was sent to the PEB board in Lewis per request from me. I have hope that this time someone or thing will not loose nor misplace them. I hope to hear tomorrow from my peblo that they were received at Lewis but it was a holiday week last week so I really not going to be surprised if they had not received them yet. For me it's been 48 days since they were mailed the first time and only 5 since the second. I would call the VA @ the 1800-VA number and ask if they could put an IRIS in for stating that you would like a second copy sent since the first never arrived. That the only thing you can do to get them sent again or you could just wait for the peb to request another copy which could take months. Hope you get it on the right path any questions please message me.

Yes, monetary advantage due to qualification for concurrent receipt of VA and DoD compensation.

As far as knowing more, it would take information about your case, condition, and performance in your job. A lot would turn on how your condition is assessed by the doctors, what your evaluations look like, anything about your recent job performance (schools, TDY, deployments, anything showing good performance). Finally, whether your bosses support you and would go to bat for you.

Yes, I know about LAS. If you are retained on LAS, a new profile is generated and you have to perform within the limits of that. It is somewhat more risky given your time in service at this point than pushing for fitness and then appealing, but this is just my instinct- you can't know how cases will resolve beforehand.

Still waiting! Last Monday I was told the PEB hadn't even recieved my package from the VA yet(SOMEHOW) and so yesterday I BEGGED my PEBLO for a REAL update. He told me he called my Case Manager and she said she was busy closing out a bunch of cases. I asked him if one of them was mine, and he said "I didn't ask because she sounded stressed, you know when you can tell by someone's voice they're having a day?"

AAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH! So basically, I still know nothing.
