VA/DOD PAY CALCULATION HELP REQUESTED

hope that’s enough information needed
There are a few things with this process you need to be aware of.

1 - The only time you will get CDRP immediately upon retirement is if you have 20 years of ACTIVE duty title 10 time. As your points show, you haven’t hit that mark. You will start receiving CDRP when you hit retirement age whether that is 59 1/2 or earlier depending on title 10 time since the NDAA of 2009.

2 - Since you are taking a DOD medical retirement, you points don’t matter at all any more. The only number that matters is the percentage of disability awarded for the referred IPEB conditions, which you provided at 60%.

3 - If you have a combat related disability, you are eligible for CRSC which Ron can calculate for you.

4 - Bottom line, the very basic calculation for your retirement is going to be (VA - DOD) + CRSC if eligible - Take home pay. Since your DOD money is slightly higher than your VA, the DFAS will cut you a cut for the difference but it is taxable income.

Hope this helps

Hello,

Glad to help. A new thread would have been best since this one has become confusing with multiple cases, but what the hay...

1. 6929 x 0.70 = 4850.30 retired pay
2. 4850.30 - 3680 VA comp amt = 1170.30 residual retired pay
3. 11.08 AD years x 0.025 = 27.7% longevity multiplier
4. 6929 x 0.277 = 1919.33 longevity amount (portion of retired pay)
5. 1919.33 - 1170.30 = 749.03 max CRSC
6. Your CRSC will be the lesser of the amount approved using the VA comp tables OR 749.03
7. 1170.30 will be added to the amount determined at item 6.
8. The likely amount paid by DFAS will be 749.03 + 1170.30. = 1919.33 TOTAL CRSC AND RESIDUAL RET PAY
9. The VA will pay = 3680
