The classes are pretty easy and my wife watched the entire thing and took the final test, total she spent about 5 1/2 hours. The final test is only 20 questions and it is not a pass/fail and is very easy, mainly common sense.Wife had her phone interview today. She sad it was painless and the coordinator was very nice. Waiting on the online class now.
Happy Holidays!!!
Wow such a great program what are the different levels of it? And diff between them? Thanks
Three tiers based on estimated hours of supervision/care needed, I think monthly stipend varied each VA hospital
Anyone know what the Tier I pay amounts for the Pacific Northwest Area of the US (Seattle, WA or Portland, OR)?
Just would like an ballpark figure for this region if anyone has one for the lower Tiers of caregiver time requirements and their corresponding pay amounts.
Thanks!

Indeed, ask and you shall receive as follows:
For the "Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA Metropolitan Division" area, an approved VA caregiver for...
For the "Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, OR-WA" area, an approved VA caregiver for...
- Tier 1 is looking at approximately $543.00 for a monthy stipend amount (e.g., 10 hours of care)
- Tier 2 is looking at approximately $1,358.00 for a monthly stipend amount (e.g., 25 hours of care)
- Tier 3 is looking at approximately $2,173.00 for a monthly stipend amount (e.g., 40 hours of care)
Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."
- Tier 1 is looking at approximately $481.00 for a monthy stipend amount (e.g., 10 hours of care)
- Tier 2 is looking at approximately $1,204.00 for a monthly stipend amount (e.g., 25 hours of care)
- Tier 3 is looking at approximately $1,926.00 for a monthly stipend amount (e.g., 40 hours of care)

It is also based upon zip code/cola zones such as where I live my wife only gets $502 because cost of living is so much cheaper than most other areas. The approximation numbers Warrior posted are actually averages nation wide.Dear Warrior644:
Thank-you very much for your speedy response!
This will help me a lot when I tell others around here.

Dear grizz13:
The closest VA Regional for me is Portland, Oregon.
I live on the coast near a town called Astoria, Oregon. I am about 90 miles from Portland.
I am wondering what a Tier 1 Caregiver payment might be for my area of the country.
Astoria, Oregon, and the town I live in would probably have the same Caregiver compensation level, but it could be a lesser mount than what is paid in Portland, Oregon.
So do you think it would be different? It could be less as I do know the GI Bill stipend rate for this area is a lower amount than what is paid in Portland.
How do I find out exactly what the rate might be for my area in Oregon?

Actually, the VA caregiver Tier 1 to Tier 3 monthly stipend amounts previously given were rounded (by me) to the nearest dollar albeit obtained from the Special Compensation for Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (SCAADL) calculator on the following URL:
http://militarypay.defense.gov/tools/scaadl/StipendCalculator.aspx
As annotated from the aforementioned DoD website, it states to "Enter the ZIP code of the geographic location where the Service member currently resides" but it also provides a disclaimer statement of "These compensation rates are subject to change based on revisions made to Bureau of Labor Statistics wage rates."
As such, the VA caregiver monthly stipend amounts are targeted for each ZIP code of a particular U.S. geographic location where the approved applicant currently lives; therefore, the "Portland-Vancouver-Beaverton, OR-WA" geographic location is applicable and targeted to your specific area and not "actually averages nation wide."
Bottom line is to use the aforementioned DoD website's SCAADL monthly stipend calculator to obtain the specific targeted amounts for your geographic location.
Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Dear Warrior644:
Thank-you for laying out this specific reference point!
This website will help others here and elsewhere better understand the realities of this program.
I now live a long way from any contacts of REAL or ACCURATE knowledge.
This website has truly become one of my main informational lifelines that helps me to manage and improve some of my post-military life/lifestyle transition issues.
I know when I come to this site, I can always get the "straight dope" from the regular members who share and contribute here.
And I also get to add my little 2 cents from time to time.
I am grateful to you all - wherever you are!

All very good information and it all assisted me with making sound decisions that effected my career and family post military.
I'm having issues with the SCAADL calculator. Seems that the calculate button is not working for me. Anyone else dealing with this?

Same here. Can't open SCADDL calculator.
I wonder if they took it down from their web site?
It is working just fine with IE, not sure about chrome, firefox, mazilla and safari.
Indeed, hmm not having any issues via I.E.; same as grizz13.
