VA caregiver program

At the time I a was applying for SCADDL I was confined to a wheelchair and my assigned WTU PCM denied me, saying I was to independent (which was true in my eyes) but he didn't know that lol he just knew that the new WTU barracks was wheelchair accessible

Goodthing that same PCM didn't fill out my evaluation for the VA caregiver

Good info to know. Do you get any yearly assessments while in Va Caregiver program? If so, what are are those yearly assessments like?...thank you again, good info to know.

They are supposed to assess every three months. I have not had one yet, but if it is anything like the initial, the nurse comes over, and just sits down and talks to you about any issues, or concerns either of you have.
 
Met this guy at the VA and he said that he was recently scheduled for a yearly assessment of the program at the VA Clinic. I guess they do it in some places once a year ???
 
Yea I was told at my initial that they will come back for another assessment in a year, and this is at a Durham NC VAMC

BTW just an update, i am being paid SCAADL currently, but it is higher amount that tier 2 and less than tier three, so I think they use the "score" as a basis for calculating hours., no clue how well this will transfer to VA caregiver yet, as I have not attempted to cross that bridge.

Indeed, and congratulations to the receipt of a higher amount of SCAADL compensation between High Tier and Medium Tier rates.

Moreover, DD Form 2948 (Sep 2011) in block #9 shows the "TOTAL SCORES" information which is subdivided into four categories as follows:
  • Block 9a. displays the automatic "ADL" score.
  • Block 9b. displays the automatic "SUPERVISION/PROTECTION" score.
  • Block 9c. displays the automatic "TOTAL" score.
  • Block 9d. annotates the "DEPENDENCE LEVEL" determined by the military service member's PCM as based upon clinical evaluation and score. The specific criteria is listed within the "SCORING GUILDE" located on DD Form 2948 (e.g., TOTAL SCORE: High Dependence: 28 - 21, Moderate Dependence: 20 - 13, Low Dependence: 12 - 1).
To that extent, in accordance with DoDI 1341.12 and as annotated on the Military Compensation website sponsored by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, "The amount of compensation paid to catastrophically wounded, ill or injured Service members is based on the member's level of dependency, caregiver assistance required, and the local wage rate for a home health aide in the member's geographical location. The Department of Defense uses the same assessment tool and Bureau of Labor Statistics wage rates for home health aides that the Department of Veterans Affairs uses for their caregiver program to ensure consistency as required by the FY2011 National Defense Authorization Act (Public Law 111-383)."

Yes having SCADDL makes transition easier. Keep in mind I heard va caregiver is not supposed to be intended long term. You may get it for one year and then all of the sudden I hear rumor says it can get cut off. Correct me if I am wrong. I even heard of amputees getting cut off from it. Sad... Sad...
 
I have tried different computers looking up the teirs, but have not had success with it working. Can simeone please look up 76131, Fort Worth Texas. I was told by my husband's VA doctor that this is something I need to look into for him. I am hoping since this is coming from his DR. that it will be approved.
 
We applied for Caregiver support in May and was denied. I am rated 90% disabled VA with IU, 80% P&T retirement Army. I have severe ptsd, TBI, degenerative Arthritis in my knees, back, and ankles, all combat related and was denied. We mailed in an appeal as soon as we got the denial letter at the end of June and have not heard 1 word from the caregiver team. We even faxed in the appeal after a month of not hearing anything. We have called and left messages but no one has returned our call. Just so you understand to, the caregiver nurse took 3 weeks to confirm that they even got the initial application after faxing it in, swore that she had called and spoken directly to me and I have my phone records to show she never called. Finally after 4 weeks one of the assistance called and gathered information about what my wife does for me on a daily bases. She makes sure I have my medicine to take, makes sure I take it because I forget quite easily, she has to drive everywhere, cook, clean, yard work, I have major panic attacks and anxiety attacks. I rarely leave the house because of my issues.

We are in Ga, zip code 31801... I sent the application and appeal to the Tuskegee VA hospital in Alabama.

Any help with what we need to do?
