Va 60-->50% disability/ inaccurate GI BILL!?

Hi all,

First a thank you to all who have helped me understand the crazy system that is the MEB. I currently have been out since FEB 2012, and have been receiving the benefits (and the backpay) since then..

When I got my 'final' statement for disability it went from 60%->50%. Mainly the shin splints, which were undeniably caused in duty. Which dropped me 10%. is this something that I can claim and get back at 60%?

Most importantly, I want to start my Masters degree. I applied and received my "Certificate of Eligibility"(Post9/11) (COE) the other day and it was at 90%... I cannot find the VA reference that states that medical discharges do not change your amount of GI coverage. I assume this is a simple mistake that an appeal will override, but I want to take care of it sooner rather than later.

Can anyone provide guidance on the issue? Thank you for all your help.
 
it has nothing to do with the fact that it is medical, it is based on lenght of service. There is a minimum time you are required to have been on active duty in order to get the 100% for GI Bill. You should have gotten something from the VA that states why you are getting the 90%.
 
I think it is based on the amount of time you completed of your first enlistment. If you only did 90% of the enlistment, then your bill only pays out at 90%... Contact your local post Education Center, they can give you the regs on this.
 
If you were medically separated you should be at the 100% rate for the post 911 gi bill. Did you fax them a copy of your separation orders and dd214?

As a reservist, I am having a problem with this....because my dd214 states I was released from active duty because I "completion of required active duty", I do not automatically get 100% benefit level.

Have you made your own thread? There is not enough information in your post to even start to try to help. I would make your own thread detailing your issues. (You may have, but, I did not see the post and you are better off keeping your issues in your own thread; otherwise, you will get disjointed answers).
 
Jason...thanks. After I posted, I went back and found more posts on the topic...but I couldn't delete or change my post...
