Update on my timeline. This may help others

Bottom line up front. The VA rated my case right after they received my C&P exam results and BEFORE I received my unfit letter from the PEB.

I am active duty Army. From what I understand the army would not request ratings from the VA until after I was found unfit by the PEB not just the MEB. I have been waiting on my ratings for 191 days for practically no reason. Here is the timeline

I was referred to the MEB June 12 2013.
C&P exams done by June 25.
Narsum in July.
Unfit letter Aug 12 2013.
Waiting on ratings.

I put in an IRIS query Jan 27 2014 and received a response I didn't understand, here is the confusing part:

"As we researched your records, we determined you currently have a claim in process under the Disability Evaluation System (DES). We received your claim on June 12, 2013, for multiple conditions. Our records indicate a preliminary rating was completed on August 12, 2013. The rating was forwarded to the Physical Evaluation Board (PEB) on August 12, 2013."

This says I received the ratings the date of my unfit letter. So two weeks ago I called the 1800# and the woman gave me the same answer as the IRIS query but didn't really make any sense. I talked to my MSC and she was confused as well.

Fast forward to yesterday. I call again and get clear concise answers. This time the lady at the VA told me they had everything they needed after the C&P exams back in June and went ahead and rated me and sent it to the PEB. So to clarify I asked "So I have a disability percentage from you guys at the VA that you sent to the PEB back in August." She said she was looking at it, wouldn't tell me what the rating was though.

So, if you have been waiting for a while, like me, you may want to check in to it. I talked to the PEBLO and apparently she has seen start dates for the rating process be before the unfit letter. This seems to be what happened to me. Hopefully this can help someone. I haven't heard anything like this before.

Indeed, a very interesting situation while in the DoD IDES process for sure!

As such, currently, where is your DA Form 199 from the USAPDA PEB? Hmm, six plus months without an IPEB finding document is definitely overboard don't you think?

To that extent, if validated, I am not at all surprised with the actions of the USAPDA PEB as based upon my unfortunate experiences within the DoD IDES process for sure!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Yeah I haven't received my 199 because I was under the impression that I was waiting on the proposed ratings still. It seems that the PEB thinks the same thing as they never gave anything to the PEBLO. She emailed them to get them to check again for my ratings or to re-request them from the VA but I haven't heard back yet.

Wow! What a joke from the PEB and a total mis-management of your DoD IDES case file at this point in my opinion! :(

Well, hopefully, you shall receive some updated positive information very soon from the PEB; as in, here is your DA Form 199!!! ;)

Update. I talked to the VA Friday and got a guy who actually explained everything to me and went through my whole file and basically the IRIS query was wrong and so were the other people i talked too. So he fixed everything in my file. I did find out that the priority right now is cases over 180 days though so that's a plus i guess.

Mods feel free to delete since the information is wrong.

Well, at least your DoVA case file situation seems to be corrected at this point in time; good deal if that’s truly the case! :)

In reference to DoVA cases over 180 days, is that for receipt of VA proposed ratings, VA final ratings, or it doesn't matter...just DoVA cases over 180 days period? Thanks!

This is all it said:

"The current effort is to work cases that are 180 days or older. This case
falls into this category and will be worked as soon as possible."

I would assume just IDES since that came from the PEB

Indeed, it seems that I would agree with your assessment at this point!

To that extent, appreciate the follow-up feedback since I am at 524 calendar days within the DoD IDES process and 50 calendar days still awaiting military disability retirement orders after signing my DA Form 199-1!

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."
