Ton of questions about PEB timelines/eas/etc

Well I was found unfit 1st of January. I'm in QA status. I was told QA means the VA has my paperwork. Bad news is that the peblo looked it up and I am QA status Pre VA. So my package has not even hit the VA 2 weeks after being found unfit from what I'm told. Looks like it takes 3 months after being found unfit to get findings. Very dissapointed but not complaining

Call the VA on Ebenefits and ask if they received anything from the IPEB stating you are unfit. that's what I did and got a confirmation that the VA received a request for proposed ratings on 13 Jan.

I have been in IDES for 299 days. I have been in the post-VA QA process at the PEB for 40 days. My timeline is below.

I am also in a MEB, I waited 46 days total from the unfit notice to receive ratings. I didn't agree with the ratings so I had 10 days to meet with legal and gather evidence and turn the reconsideration notice in to the Peblo. I turned that in yesterday. He told me from here, that if there is going to be a formal board, I will know within 2 weeks, but sometimes the PEB can just dangle a number out there and I can choose to take it or go to formal board, just depends on the situation. From the evidence I gathered, it should be no less than 40% DOD, but all regs read 100%. So I should know within a month of what rating I will receive.

Hey bud just to let you know the times for me right now was about 3 weeks after they Informal Board they should pull it for review. Mine is currently under review so hopefully I should be able to give you timelines as Iam about a month ahead of you.

Any new word come your way? I haven't heard anything at all still.

I was found unfit as of 2/2/2016 unofficially i had to ask my peblo

Nice, congrats! I've got a 3 day week this week and then TRS all next week (trying to take care of all the separation crap that's mandatory to use as much terminal as possible). I'm thinking I'll hear something once that week is up. Fingers crossed. Congrats again man, hope your ratings come back with what you want.

3moose1,

I got the "your medical board has been accepted by the PEB" message a day after you on 30 Dec and mine still says that it is under review on EBenefits. I know that when it says pending decision approval they have reached a decision and are waiting for ratings to come back but it seems pretty early to expect that. Maybe your case was an easy determination for them though. I found the following on the EBenefits site which may be able to answer your question some;

Claims Process
There are eight distinct steps that most claims for disability compensation follow. These phases may vary in time depending on the complexity of the claim, the amount of evidence that must be gathered to support the claims, and the type of evidence. You are strongly encouraged to submit as much evidence as possible with your claim to help minimize processing time. The eight steps of claims processing are as follows:

Step 1. Claim Received
Your claim has been received by the VA. If you applied online with VONAPP Direct Connect, you should see receipt in your list of Open Claims within one hour. If you applied through the U.S. mail, please allow mailing time plus one week for us to process and record receipt of your claim.

Step 2. Under Review
Your claim has been assigned to a Veterans Service Representative and is being reviewed to determine if additional evidence is needed. If we do not need any additional information, your claim will move directly to the Preparation for Decision phase.

Step 3. Gathering of Evidence
The Veterans Service Representative will request evidence from the required sources. Requests for evidence may be made of you, a medical professional, a government agency, or another authority. It is common for claims to return to this phase, should additional evidence be required.

Step 4. Review of Evidence
We have received all needed evidence. If, upon review, it is determined that more evidence is required, the claim will be sent back to the Gathering of Evidence phase.

Step 5. Preparation for Decision
The Veterans Service Representative has recommended a decision, and is preparing required documents detailing that decision. If more evidence is required, the claim will be sent back in the process for more information or evidence.

Step 6. Pending Decision Approval
The recommended decision is reviewed, and a final award approval is made. If it is determined that more evidence or information is required, the claim will be sent back in the process for more information or evidence.

Step7. Preparation for Notification
Your entire claim decision packet is prepared for mailing.

Step 8. Complete
The VA has sent a decision packet to you by U.S. mail. The packet includes details of the decision or award. Please allow standard mailing time for your packet to arrive before contacting a VA call center.

Hope this helps!

I have a question, is this on the original claim??? When my unfit letter came down (27JAN16) it seems there was a second claim opened up??? Am I waiting to go through these eight steps on that second claim, or the first (the first has all the things I claimed listed)? The first claim seems to be in this 5th step, where the second one is only in the 1st step.

I think the key here is this "Your claim has been assigned to a Veterans Service Representative and is being reviewed to determine if additional evidence is needed. If we do not need any additional information, your claim will move directly to the Preparation for Decision phase."

I believe we skip to step 6.

must be nice I had to get another exam completed. I am just waiting for the results to be sent to the VA then my ratings will get wrapped up.

Has anyone else gotten any updates recently? I got the "Your medical board case has been accepted by the PEB for action" message on January 14th, so today marks 5 weeks since then and I haven't heard anything at all.

I've called the VA on Ebenefits a couple of times, but haven't been able to find anything out that way. My PEBLO hasn't been much help either. I know she is a busy woman as she is handling quadruple the cases that she normally does, but it takes her days to respond to me via e-mail usually (nearly impossible to reach her on the phone) and when she does it's usually something like "Nothing yet".

The computer systems were all down and jacked up for the last few weeks. I wonder if that has something to do with it? When I went in to sign my NARSUM the systems had just come back up after some kind of update that had knocked them offline for a few days. I spoke to my PEBLO a week or two ago and she said they're still having problems with the IDES system, but things are still moving along, the notices are maybe just a bit delayed.

I'm two weeks ahead of you on the MOL message and still haven't heard anything yet either. I'll put a message on here when I do. Another guy in here was two weeks ahead of me and just found out about 2 weeks ago. I'm thinking any day now.

3moose1,

*timeline*

Hope this helps!

I see your timeline, but my partner's said "Decision Notification Sent" - not one of the options above. SHould he expect something physically in the mail? We thought the info came from the PEBLO who has been saying, "two weeks, two weeks" every step of the journey thus far. According to ebenefits, his package was sent from the VA back to the PEB 9 weeks ago, so we are expecting ratings soon. Hopefully?

Yea should be any time now. Won't be in the mail though because they will send it back to the PEBLO. Sounds like you're really close though.

Finally heard back from my PEBLO this morning. Here is what she said:

"The only status I have is that your case is in QA-pre VA. Usually we can assume that the PEB will make an Unfit finding based on that. However, at the moment, the two systems we use to track PEB's do not agree. I would say you could tentatively think they are finding you Unfit. It won't be official until the PEB sends full findings back, though. I would think, based on the status above, we would see full findings in about 6 weeks."

Glad to finally hear back, although apparently I will be waiting 6 more weeks for answers. Oh well, some timeline is better than none at all.

Glad to hear you heard something. You have me curious about calling my PEBLO now that I know you are QA-pre VA and my package hit the IPEB about two weeks before you. I had a massive amount of claims to be looked at though so not sure if that matters about how long it takes. I figure it's safer to assume an unfit finding when it starts taking this long. I work with another Marine whose package went up exactly the same time as mine (we even met our PEBLO's on the same day), and that came back with a FIT determination almost 3 weeks ago now. 6 weeks doesn't sound to bad though, glad you heard something back from them.

How many times are you found unfit?? I received my unfit letter on 27JAN16, and was able to then do up a memo to turn in all of my gear and whatnot. Is there a second unfit situation that I have not been aware of??

I know in the Marine Corps there is only one official unfit. We do get a unofficial when they send our package for ratings at DRAS.

You're only found UNFIT once. I haven't been found unfit yet. Still waiting for word.
