Figured I'd start my timeline and update as it goes. Here at the Installation Formerly Known as Fort Rucker, our MEB/IDES process must go up to the Installation Formerly Known as Fort Lee as we don't have any PEBLOs at this installation.

For reference, I'm an Aviator being referred to MEB for Cerebral Vein Sinus Thrombosis (two blood clots in the left transverse sinus vein of the brain) due to the J&J Covid vaccine back in Aug of 2021. I tried getting treatment for two years, but the blood thinner therapy is going to last at least another eight months, but most likely life-long. I'll have 21 years of service this July.

So, that being said:

10 MAY 23- P3 submitted to PEB awaiting second signature

Sorry to hear that you got complications from the vaccine. They are rare but do happen and it sucks that you didn't have a say in it! I assume you have 21 years AD correct? If so, you will get CRDP. With all that being said the main differences in compensation is some savings on not paying an annual fee if you chose Tricare Select in retirement.

Since you have your regular retirement to fall back on it may be worth it to focus on trying to get additional unfitting conditions added that will get you to 60% DOD or higher and have a plan for 1 or more of them to be designated as combat related. The reason for this strategy is because the only way to net more compensation is to get one or more condition listed as combat related and have your DOD% higher than your earned longevity. There isn't much to lose since you have your regular retirement to fall back on and if the process is delayed and you don't reach your goal as least you have more pay and increased your longevity multiplier for your earned regular pension.

Yes, 21 years AD. Since I will get CRDP, I'm not trying to get anything else. I'd just like to exit the Army as quickly as possible.

So, I'm still waiting for the second signature on the P3. How long should I wait before I contact someone, and who (other than my PCM) should I contact? Again, Novosel's MEBs are being handled by whatever installation Fort Lee, VA is now.

Any helpful advice would be most appreciated.

10 MAY- P3 Submitted by PCM.
26 MAY- No update. No second signature. No contact. No idea what's going on.

1 June- Still waiting for P3 second signature. No contact. No idea what's going on.

To answer your earlier question, my P3 review and signature process took several months, ultimately. The first time that mine was reviewed the second signature/review insisted that mine should only be P2. I then had to provide additional medical documentation that was apparently omitted in the transfer of documents, and it took a few additional weeks for that. The timeline went from o/a June 1st and I did not receive notice of the P3 until 1 August. I also submitted documents prior to June 1st with a profile request several weeks earlier, but the Army did nothing until results from a PHA.

Thanks for the info. This is exactly what I'm looking for. Most other people that have contacted me have said it was about 3 days at most from flash to bang on the second signature. It just feels like my case is lost in the ether.

20 June: Still awaiting second signature of P3 profile.

I suspect my pcm didn't forward the proper paperwork/information to the MEB at Fort Lee until this past Friday because I kept contacting people in the Patient Admin office here at novosel and he angrily replied "I've already explained to Mr. ____ this will take a long time and it's out of my control." But then, the packet was forwarded to the IDES office that day. Strange, huh?

Yeah, I have had several instances where something seemed to be initiated or sent immediately following a phone call or other follow up. People are people.

24 JUL- Not a peep from anyone about anything. No replies.

Forgive me, I'm going to vent for a moment. I have been in the Army 21 years, and I have yet to see a process so disjointed, disorganized, undermanned, and under-supported as the MEB/PEB process. This is a stressful process as I try to find employment based on a transition timeline that is unknowable. Right now, I stand to lose a $300k/year employment opportunity because it has taken from May 2nd to now to get NOWHERE in the process. I'm not mad at the PEBLO, the MEB physician, etc. I'm mad at the system and the leadership that under-funds, under-staffs, and under-prioritizes the MEB/PEB process. I get that we're on the way out. But, I broke myself for 21 years on behalf of the Army and I'd like just an ounce of courtesy.

Rant over. Sorry.

I sense and feel your frustration. For me, there have been some good aspects of the process, but many disjointed parts as well.

One thing that might be helpful is to inform your PEBLO of the pending employment opportunity and request an expedited process. I have not tried this, but I have read that some others leveraged this and seemed to get some good results.

Second, is it worth working with the potential employer to maybe do some work while you are in/on duty status to keep the door open? Perhaps there is a scenario that would allow provisional employment with the prospect of a permanent situtation if you could do some things in a hybrid or remote fashion until your process is complete.

I realize that I am doing that thing in offering a solution and not just listening to the problem, so I am sorry for that.

Hope that things move along for you, and you start experiencing progress and a peaceful transition.

I am in a similar situation, signed offer letter but I purposely did not commit to a start date. With that said the process is dragging on a lot longer than I expected and the new employer is getting impatient. I do my best to show face and attend meetings with the new employer to demonstrate my commitment to the company while I go through this process. I was told that my packet would be expedited due to my job offer once it hit the PEB phase, unfortunately it took me 180 days to get to the PEB phase.... I would definitely recommend having a realistic heart to heart conversation with your new employer and lay out expectations.

No worries at all. I, too, like to offer solutions. I just needed to vent for a moment.

1. I still have no PEBLO assigned. There is one PEBLO at Fort Lee (which is doing Rucker's MEBs which complicates everything). I haven't been able to contact him in over two weeks of trying. Fort Rucker/Novosel is hiring a PEBLO in August, so I'm hearing that we'll be transferred to Novosel/Rucker, where I am stationed.

2. The employment I was speaking towards requires relocation to Saudi Arabia. I'm not sure how much longer they're going to hold the position open for me, nor can I work in any capacity until I relocate. That being said, I am currently working as a Realtor® trying to make up for the loss in flight pay and have something to help bridge the gap upon separation.

I appreciate your well-wishes. Again, I just needed to vent for a moment. Now, back to the grind.

Thanks for the info. I do plan to request an expedite memo. I have been in constant communication with the employer for expectation management purposes. It's looking like my timeline will line up with yours unless something gives.
