Time from signing 199 to terminal leave at Ft. Bliss?

All that being said, technically, and definitely in a less than helpful command, you aren't supposed to work on terminal leave and they even said something to me about that today. I don't agree with it but just stating what I was told...by my less than helpful command lol I do totally agree with SGT Bob about the selling your leave thing. I feel like it gives you some cash to fall back on

That's what I have heard is a 28% tax rate, just like bonuses.

SGT Bob, that is a good point and a good way to look at it. My experience has mainly been with wounded warrios at Walter Reed who already had jobs lined up from all the job fairs they would put on there. They could take 2 months of leave, recieving full everything, and use that 2 months to either relax or start work, essentially double dipping. It could also be beneficial to those who are in a 'less than helpful' command that want to get out as soon as possible due to mistreatment.

Yep. Personally, I will be taking possession of a UPS Store while I'm on terminal leave. =)

Oh congrats by the way on your ratings... I received TDRL 70 DoD/ 80 VA

True you aren't SUPPOSED to start working while on terminal leave, but that doesn't stop many people. What are they gonna do, bring you back in and deploy you? So basically, it's 6 in one hand, half a dozen in the other. All depends on your personal situation.

I'm actually assigned to recruiting command so deployment is out and my profile prohibits deployment and firearms...lol

take the transition leave if you can. If you sell it, your only gonna get taxed base pay. If you take the leave, you get BAH, BAS and everything else you'd normally be entitled to.

I would get those during my leave if I worked those days. I'm not traveling when I'm done. I'm actually assigned to where I'm from. So it doesn't really effect me all that much to work

Sgt bob, This is my first time here, a lot of good info, I have a question for you what happens after signing the 199? Have you received your orders? Thank you

Welcome to PEB forums, you have come to the right place!!

Although I haven't signed mine yet due to some errors, I have a general idea of what SHOULD happen. The next thing that should happen is that your orders get issued and you start clearing. From what I have seen, most people are gone (on terminal leave) in about 2-3 weeks. Lately though, I have heard that orders are taking anywhere from 24 hours to 4 weeks...ridiculous, I know, but that's what I have been hearing/reading.

I will meet with my attorney on Sunday (He's a reservist and has a drill weekend) and go over the 199. I should have more info. then. I will keep you posted as to what actually happens. Keep an eye on this thread and/or my "timeline" thread.

Ok but how do you figure how much you will get? For example, if you have 36 days of leave, do they base it off a 30 day month or a 31? How do they figure the remaining 5/6 days?
The formula is monthly base pay times 12 divided by 365 that will give you your daily pay rate then multiply that by your number of days.

I tend to lean towards selling days myself. In my case my unit is pretty cool as far as leaving me alone and only having me there for formations and piss tests. I can do that for 90 days! Then sell my leave a get a nice, well somewhat nice bonus... In my case I'm taking 20 days PTDY and 10 days of leave to equal 30 total days because I don't want to have to wait around for the BDE Commander to sign off it. 30 and below I can handle it at the BN level. So in the end, I'll end up selling like 60 days of leave once you factor in the 2.5 days you get each month.

If you just want out, hate being around your unit etc. then in my opinion take as much leave as they will allow! You have earned it.

Well I literally do nothing all day! So its easy for me too

Where did you get that formula from?

Is that based off of a 31 day month or 30 day or did you just multiply your daily amount times the days of leave?

It's just a formula of your monthly base pay x months in the year / days in the year to give you = daily pay rate. Only difference would be during leap year. Days in a particular month is not a variable here. Only the days of leave.
