Hello. I am not sure if I am posting this in the right thread. I am seeking help.
My son is currently deployed overseas and sent me an email (which are far in between) saying the following: "unfortunately im going to be processed for separation from the Navy. No further news as to why, theyre making it sound like its for medical reasons because of the characterization of separation"
What does that mean?
Also, since he is deployed in an aircraft carrier and originally not expected to be back until the summer, I assume he will finish his deployment and then come home correct?
Somebody please help, I just want to know what this could mean, I know is very vague but i just want to have an idea. Thank you and God bless!

Recommend you ask your son for additional information.

While on active duty in the Army, occasionally my units would have a soldier separated early. I can offer that each one knew
exactly the reason.

A close relative of mine was separated early from the Navy. It was due to possession/smoking pot; there was no mystery.

Good luck,

Ron

Separations happens for a multitude of reasons. Ask him, he knows.

Hi mom! I worked wit the carrier group where we did a lot of work with people separating mid deployment. He is able to come back before the ship depending on the conditions of his separation.

In the event of a medical condition there's a conversation between ship medical, the CO of the ship and the Shore side logistics. If the sailor can work TAD (temporary Duty) in a less strenuous environment like serving food or ships laundry they will be stationed there for the remainder of deployment. If not the options are:
A - The sailor can be flown off via helicopter or C-2 to the closest port to either be treated at the local hospital or be flown home or
B - The sailor can wait till the ship ports and fly home from there (usually what happens for early orders or injuries that prevent flight)
In this case I would say no news is good news, the ship does act with urgency in the event of severe conditions so if he isn't replying (speculation) it's not life threatening medical.
