The Waiting Game

I've been reading various posts on here for a while now and decided to share a little bit of my story. I am currently going through an IPEB and I swear that it's been taking forever. It was sent away by my PEBLO on May 23rd, and I still haven't heard anything back yet. It was only a month between MEB and the IPEB. I've gotten in touch with her and she agrees that even that is a bit too long to be waiting. She is an extremely nice person who is very patient and understanding. If it wasn't for her, I'd be pulling what little hair I have left. I suffer from migraines, which have gotten worst over the years. On top of that I suffer from complications from a detached retina from three years ago as well as multiple retinal tears. I've had one emergency surgery and about three others to help "patch" up the retinal tears. In addition, I have difficulties driving at night and firing my primary weapon. I keep failing because I can't see the friggin' target. I should add that I was a decent shot before the surgeries. To say that my vision has gotten worst since the operations is an understatement. I was wondering if anyone has had to wait this long to get a response back or suffer from similar ailments. Thank you for a very informative and helpful site.

Here's an update: I called my PEBLO on Monday because I thought that 14 weeks was a bit too long to wait on IPEB results. Got the word this morning that they lost my paperwork down at Randolph. You can say that I'm a little bit upset. I wish something had been done sooner. I had called the PEBLO before (repeatedly), but she never checked. Has anyone gone thru something similar? And if so, how long was the wait from the time the paperwork was found until the results? Would really like some feedback. Thanks.

I can't really tell how long for the results, but I sympathize with you about the migraines. I suffer from severe migraines and cluster headaches. I finally recieved my IPEB findings yesterday after my package was accepted by the PEB they terminated it because they wanted a LOD (Line of Duty) done, so I was back at square one and had to go through the whole MEB process twice.

All I can say is hang in there and stay positive, I know its easier said than done with the migraine pain. Just keep a good paper trail, don't let the PEBLO blow you off, the PEBLO is their for you not the other way around.

Stay diligent and best wishes

Does anyone know if there's a snag in the PEB process down at Randolph? I'm still waiting on my results (which were originally submitted May 23rd and had to be resubmitted after they lost them) and it's getting very frustrating simply because I was given a timeframe which has been busted. I have been trying to apply for jobs, but since I don't know when I'm leaving, I can't give my future employer a clear date on when I can come down for a job interview. On top of that, I'm trying to see what I can do about buying a house, but obviously that option is out of the question as well. There's also the issue of school change for my children. And all the while I can't go out of area on leave during my PEB. The PEBLO here says that they've tried to get in contact w/ AFPC, but they haven't answered any of their queries as to my case. I have obviously followed my chain of command, and have asked my supervisor for help, as well as the shirt and the Chief. The next logical step would be the CC. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

I always end up giving all these caveats whenever I answer these questions, because I think that every case is different, the workloads vary at the PEBs at different times, the complexity of the cases matter for processing times, and for a thousand different reasons, the timelines can change. I also have only a group of cases at anyone time going through, and I can't tell if there is any significant change until the case is decided and/or forwarded to the FPEB. That being said, as far as my recent groups of cases, things seem to be moving within normal variance.

I know how tough all that uncertainty can be, too. When I separated from the Army, I was notified less than 25 days out, which made life tough. Having to deal with the unknowns of the outcome of the PDES can only make that stress that much worse. I hope it goes well.
