TERA

....AND 7 years later I'm back!

So, I've read lots of threads but wanted to put it out there and get some sound advice. In the Air Force, August makes 19 years. Today was told that I would be MEB'd for type 2 DM. Doctors have not started any paper work yet for the MEB.

My question...should I ask my commander to have them hold off so I can apply for TERA OR go through the whole MEB process. I'm thinking TERA.

Depending on the severity of your condition I think is where you need to start looking before you make any decision. If you take TERA you will receive a "discounted" retirement %. Depending on you condition you could potentially take more home. Hope that helps!

TERA would make you CRDP eligible. So would a disability retirement if you can make it to 20 years. CRDP eligibility can mean thousands more a month.

TERA it is! Application submitted, hope to hear in about 2 weeks.
After searching this site it seems I would benefit a great deal more if I TERA versus being medically retired before 20 years.
Thanks for the advice.

Options.
Members whose final disposition of their dis
ability case is separation (active duty
or TDRL) or TDRL from active duty, and they have 15 to 20 years active service, will be referred to
HQ AFPC/DPPR. Members who meet basic eligibility requirements for Temporary Early Retirement
Authority (TERA) may ap
ply and, if approved, be retired under TERA. ARC members found unfit
for nonduty related medical conditions, if otherwise eligible, may apply for early retirement pursuant
to 10 U.S.C. 12732

The way I read it is if you are TDRL or under 30% DOD you can also apply for TERA once your case has run it's course.
