if The board decides to take someone off of tdrl after re-evaluation and put them on medical separation with severance instead, does that member qualify for TAMP tricare coverage or have any tricare coverage for a certain amount of days after the decision? Or do you just not have medical care instantly and have to find care right away?

As soon as your transferred off of the TDRL your won’t be eligible for tricare anymore

You automatically qualify for 5 years free healthcare with the VA (OIF/OEF)

I am asking for my spouse. I wasn’t sure how long after their decision tricare would be taken away. I haven’t had my re-evaluation yet (Dec 11) just trying to prepare for the worst

I never knew that our families qualified for health care from the VA. I only found out that my family is eligible for champ VA since I’m 100%. I’ve been dealing with the VA since 2004

As far as I know they only qualify if you are 100% p/t from the VA. I am 100% but haven’t received p/t yet

Health care for spouses, dependents, and family caregivers
--->---see this LINK

1. You can only get health care through CHAMPVA if you don’t qualify for TRICARE and at least one of the descriptions below is true for you.

At least one of these must be true. You’re:
  • The spouse or child of a Veteran who’s been rated permanently and totally disabled for a service-connected disability by a VA regional benefit office, or
  • The surviving spouse or child of a Veteran who died from a VA-rated service-connected disability, or
  • The surviving spouse or child of a Veteran who was at the time of death rated permanently and totally disabled from a service-connected disability, or
  • The surviving spouse or child of a service member who died in the line of duty, not due to misconduct (in most of these cases, family members qualify for TRICARE, not CHAMPVA).

2. Separate from the VA
:
If you’re the family member of an active-duty, retired, or deceased service member, National Guard Soldier, Reservist, or Medal of Honor recipient, you may qualify for the TRICARE program.

3. See GSFowler's post above for additional info.
