TDRL Orders/National Guard

I received my TDRL orders today 2/1/2010 and am being released from duty on FEB 24th. I do not know what happens next.

Is there more paperwork I have to do?
Am I supposed to receive more paperwork than a 2 page document of Orders?
How does my National Guard Unit need to handle administratively?(nobody seems to know)
Who do I contact about my benefits, Tricare, ID Card ...?
I am already receiving VA compensation do I need to let them know that I am on TDRL?

Everything that I am being put on TDRL for is combat related and is annotated that way on all of my MEB and PEB documents. My Orders state the following, "Disability is based on injury or disease received LOD as a direct result of Armed Conflict or caused by an instrumentality of war and incurred in LOD during a war period as defined by law: YES" as well as "Disability resulted from a combat related injury as defined in 26 USC 104: YES".

I have not received any guidance and the 24th is not far away, I just want to make sure everything is in order.

You can take your TDRL orders to the military installation nearest your HOR and they will issue an retired ID card as well as help you enroll in Tricare. If you have dependents I would recommend the family plan which is well worth the premium. You need to do this ASAP. Your SGLI will expire witnin 180 days. DFAS should coordinate pay issues directly with the VA. You should also get a DD214 that you should take to you local courthouse and have them file it in their data base. The can also issue you extra certified copies that you can use for future VA claims filings and other activities requiring a copy of you DD214. You should also check in to you State website and find out what benefits you will receive as a vet.

Try to get a complete photocopy of you medical records before you come off active duty. They will be invaluable down the road if you need to file additional VA claims. etc.
 
OIF 3 released from active duty back to national guard with 3 LOD's and no MEB/PEB simply REFRAD'ed. VA rating within 90 days at 70% total and permanent. In NG for 6 months then requested to go Inactive Natioanl Guard due to inability to continue VA treatment and Drills on civilian Leave. Currently at 80% total working with Reserve/NG Wounded Warrior program to review and see if I should have been MEB/PEB instead of quietly shuffled out. Anyone know the possibility of being taken back on active or guard to be reevaluated?

I was wondering if anything was being done for those soldiers who were released from Active Duty following service in Iraq without being proccessed through the PEB/MEB back into the NAtional Guard system. I was a Combat Engineer activated for service in Iraq, 2004-2006, from the Hawaii Army National Guard. I served in Iraq from 2005-2006 in the Balad area and was awarded a 2 ARCOM for combat service and a Combat Action Badge. Upon returning to Hawaii I was diagnosed with PTSD and a few physical ailments and kept in the Medical Hold Over Company held at the Medical Readiness Processing Unit from January 2006-May 2006. While at Medical Hold I was proccessed for (DA Form 2173) Statement of Medical Examiniation and Duty Status (Line of Duty for PTSD, Right Ankle, and both knees). Also my DA Form 2173 Line of Duty for Post Tramatic Stress Disorder was reviewed for completeness adn found to ne in the line of Duty Authorized by the Secretary of the Army and signed by LTC. I was then released from Active Duty (Honorable Discharge) back into the National Guard without being either MEB or PEB. At MRPU I was told that I was being REFRAD'ed not for reasons of medical and that we should seek further medical treatment from the National Guard and Veteran Administration. I was told by one of the Medics that the VA and National Guard did not have the ability to care for us and that our discharge from MRPU was being expedited due to pressure from the Active Army and that we were costing them too much money. I was told that I did not have any option other then to write in the comment block of my ETS physical that "I did not waiver my rights to seek further treatment at a later time". I was told in formation at MRPU during my final out processing that the National Guard and Veteran Administration were ready to care for those of us who returned from Iraq with issues. I spent 8 months attempting to get help from the National Guard and was told that it was an Active Duty issue and that I was "Shit out of Luck" for having been REFRAD'ed. Within 90 days of my initial claim for VA disability I was rated at 70% disability (30% PTSD and 40% physical disability). I attempted to maintain my National Guard career however the effects of balancing VA medical appointments and Drills became to much of a financial burded. I requested to be placed on Inactive National Guard status due to my having been given 70% disability within 6 months of my Discharge from Active Duty and the finiancial burden it cause my family. I continued to receive care from the VA and attempted to get on with a normal life. I was accepted and went online as a Deputy Sheriff until issues within the department became too much and my PTSD symptoms became more accute and I was Hospitalized at in the PTSD Resident Recovery Progam for 8 weeks. I was reevaluated by the VA and given a rate increase to 80% disability (70% for PTSD and 40 % for physical disability). Throughout my journey from Active Duty to here. The same phrase cotinued to pop up "Why were you not MEB/PEB ed. Finally during the last last PTSD Resident Recovery Program graduation I was able to talk to a number of other veterans who had similar issue and who had not been MEB/PEB this is were i found out about the law suit concerning AD PEB.. I have heard that I was not the only member of the National Guard who was flushed down the drain due to the technicality of the Active Army being able to Release us back to the National Guard without having to go thor ugh the PEB/MEB process. I am currently on Social Security and 80% disability from the VA due to my PTSD. I was wondering if anything is being done to address the National Guard issues with Iraq and Afghanistan.

Same thing happened to me. I was National Guardsman in OIF 2004-2005. Diagnosed with PTSD, tinnitus, TBI, etc. while still in combat zone on active duty. Was put in MedHold unit at Ft. Bragg after returning from Iraq. I pointed out to doctor there that I had medical issues listed in AR40-501 that should meet the criteria for MEB/PDES. They ignored that and released me from active duty without affording me the opportunity to go through the PDES.
 
Did this happen to anyone else? Chime in, this story is getting national attention.
