TDRL Eval - Fit for Duty, is early retirement an option?

Greetings,

I (USAF, E-6) went through an MEB at the end of 2010 and was placed on TDRL. I just had my first TDRL evaluation and was found fit for duty. I have 17.5yrs of active duty service.

I've been digging on the internet (just found this site, wish I had when I started all of this) and it looks like basically I will either have to reenlist or separate. Obviously I don't want to give up my 17.5yrs, so I'll go back in. But I have a question. Is it possible I could be offered a transfer to permanent retirement as well? My condition is stable and 30%. I read a few places that if I'm stable, 30%, and less than 20, I can be permanently retired. Or is that only if found UNFIT? I saw some mention that I could retire under TERA if eligible, but couldn't find anymore information, plus it seemed most everything was Fit for Duty = enlist / separate....or unfit = all the other options.

Things have been going pretty good since I went on TDRL and if I could retire early somehow instead of returning to service, my wife and I would consider it. Right now I'm assuming that I'll just be told to re-up or separate.

So to sum up, is it possible I could be offered a retirement option along with reenlist or separate since I've been found fit for duty?

Hello, I haven't been on here in a while and I apologize for that, My first re eval for TDRL is the 16th of July 2014 in El Paso, I was med boarded because of my knee and PTSD. I was told by the PEBLOs there that they are not even going to re-evaluate my knee because I had a total knee replacement, they are only going to re-eval the PTSD. My question is, I have been taking all the meds. they have been giving me and going to all the appointments they have been sendeing me to, but the appointments to my shrink have been getting farther and farther apart, is it possible they will say my PTSD has stabilized, and find me fit for duty?

I started out at 100% and unstable, but since we knew I'd heal, I went on TDRL. Now I'm stable and fit for duty (Dr's words, not the PEB..yet) Started on the diet and working out, time to drop some weight so I can get back in! It does suck a bit. My family and I were just getting settled in a new home we love, great job and all. I'll be taking a pay cut going back on active duty, but it's worth it in the end.

Tadpole,

Good evening and after reading your posts from 2012, I'm curious to know whether you returned to AD or not. I'd also like to be found fit for duty and come off of the TDRL, but I'm also worried that being found fit and then getting re-assigned to wherever the needs of the Army ends up being, would really put a strain on my family and I since we just moved back to Germany. Hope all is well, thank you for your service, and please let me know how the process went for you to be returned to AD.

I really dont think they will let you back in if you va rating is at 100 percent . They will re evaluate all conditions . like going through meps again I would assume but I can be wrong. Im my case I was retired and put on tdrl at 70 percent dod 100 percent VA . I was told I prolly wont get back in even if my condition stabilizes the other conditions will limit me .

Same here . I was told NO . I would be put on PDRL more than likely but each persons situation is different. Even doctors have different diagnoses . even if i was dropped to 30 percent dod my va rating is still 100.
