I hope I explain this question accurately! Please bare with me!
I'm currently rated 30% TDRL from the Air Force for Bipolar Disorder... Since I got out as a SSgt, my take home retirement pay is roughly $1300 since I receive the automatic TDRL 50%.
I understand you can't receive both retirement pay and va disablilty pay for the same condition.
Say overall for all my disability claims with the VA I receive a grand percentage of 50%. With spouse and child this would be $899 per month. Does this mean that I would receive $899 from the VA and the remainder from the Air Force? Do they take into account just the final percentage rating?
or does it work this way... If of that 50%, 30% was for the Bipolar disorder and the remaining 20% was for the other disabilities, do they only count the Bipolar disorder? So I would receive $453 for the Bipolar from the VA and still get to keep the remaining from the TDRL... AND... also get to receive the remaining 20% for other disabilities from the VA?
Lordy I hope that makes sense! I appreciate any feedback!!! mls

I think I'll end up with 50% or 60% total from the VA.
