SSDI appointments? Is this normal?

Hey folks:

I filed for SSDI as I was advised to do when I got my unfit memo. I just received notice that I have two appointments. One for a complete physical; and the second is for mental review. My question is: Is it normal to have to attend separate appointments for Social security?
At this point I have been found unfit and am waiting on ratings. At work I play the part of a potted plant that answers the phone. Basically my index of suspicion has been raised. Having been subject to most folks during my MEB treating me like I’m faking or lying, (Chain of command, fellow Soldiers, hospital staff, QTC staff, off post referral folks, any Senior NCO I cane pass as I’m going through the motions of being a Soldier, people who wanted a closer parking space, people in the SS office, my NCM, my pain management doc. You folks have seen it yourselves. However I have to give credit to the 2 PA's both Veterans had to fight for me to get properly treated and processed, my PEBLO (He really tries), and my wife and kids who have watched their loved one go from functional to needing help to conquer stairs.
Any way I now need to emotionally prepare for my appointments, so as to not lose my cool. I need a THR and a PHR on the other side, I need a minor lumbar fusion, I have all my other problems that a decade of hard service will give you. But I will admit I am tired of the attitudes and stares and the outright accusations of shaming and trying to milk the system. I’m on a cane; I have to ride those dam carts in the store. I am trying to cope with my severely diminished physical ability. I know you folks understand. I am not the first nor sadly will I be the last to have to deal with these issues. Deal with them I will. But I was just wondering what the appointments were about, and if this is normal or should I be expecting the rope a dope somewhere in this.
Sorry about the whiney rant I just needed to let it out in a safe environment.
Thank you for what you do.
PS. My plan for lack of a better word is to try to get either VA or TRICARE if I am medically Retired to do the 1 & ½ hip replacements and the minor lumbar fusion; to continue with my therapy and to hopefully get to work after my recovery. (About a 2 & ½ to 3 year span from the first surgery if I can get them in a row ect.. ect..) But getting back to work eventually is my goal.
SSDI appointments? Is this normal?

Yes it normal, not to worry! I went down the same road.
The reason for the appt as I was told by SSA Admin, they,
needed more info on my conditions so they sent me to
see a forensic therapist for PTSD and a Med doctor for everything else.
They where both nice docs! I was a first time go for SSDI.

Thank You.

That’s good to hear; sometimes my paranoia gets the better of me. Congrats on your first time go with SSDI, I’ve read some horror stories on the forums.

I too had SSDI appointments. The doctors I was sent to basically did a brief review of my claimed conditions and it went very smooth.

Nearly identical to the QTC portion of my VA C&P

Ok Less worries then

Hey Doc, to put you further at ease. Social Security has doctors that know the format and the wording to fit into their system. They can't always achieve that with Tri Care Doctors, Mil Doctors or PEB paperwork. As always, prep for your appointments, but in most cases these appointments are easy and it's just to get it worded and formatted the way Social Security wants it... Also realize Social Security is paying the bill (Very Low Set amount) so these doctors don't really get paid to spend to much time with you...

Was found unfit for 27 issues by the PEB and needless to say that there are also and additional 18 issues that meet retention; anyway I'm pretty busted up so I decided to apply for SSD. Well, I filled out the initial paperwork then had to fill out two additional packets: Function report (daily Living) and 15 yr past work history packet. So now I get a letter in the mail saying that there are in the process of reviewing my medical records and need some additional information pertaining to Headaches. Making me wonder whats going on, why do they want more infor on my headaches only, lord knows there are 27 (+) un fit issues and an additional 18 fir issues.

Hey Tim, do you think it will go any faster if you fight them on it? Supply the info... it is what it is. The Social Security Criteria is different then the PEB criteria and I would advise you supply everything they request. I know they are not the easiest to work with but I think it's the old cooperate and graduate routine that made my claim the first time through...

In my opinion, positive thinking yields positive results. ;)

In reference to Social Security Administration (SSA) SSDI, the State Disability Determination Services (DDS) need to know all medical conditions which could potentially affect your ability to perform substantial gainful activity (SGA) and the SSA overall SSDI determination.

Moreover, most Social Security disability claims are initially processed through a network of local SSA field offices and State agencies (usually called DDSs). Subsequent appeals of unfavorable determinations may be decided in a DDS or by an administrative law judge (ALJ) in SSA's Office of Disability Adjudication and Review.

With that all said, if a SSDI applicant potentially wants that "disabled" SSDI determination, it's in the applicant's BEST interest to thoroughly and accurately complete ALL requested SSA DDS documentation in a timely manner. Believe it or not, especially if the SSDI applicant identify themselves as "Wounded Warrior" eligible, the SSA DDS are trying to make a swift well-informed medical determination.

Case-in-point, I received my SSA Wounded Warrior flagged SSDI "disabled" determination within less than 76 calendar days upon the initial submission to include a SSA paid outsourced medical consultant healthcare appointment for additional objective medical documentation. :D

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

It is a difficult walk we make; one filled with thoughts of remorse, disappointment, anger and envy. The stressors that motivate those thoughts are different for each individual. I can only relate to you that for me, it was a very long mentally taxing and physically demanding exercise that resulted in a heart attack because I let the stress of it eat at me... But it did get better after I starting understanding that I only control what I'm responsible for... and practicing descendite ne illegitimi
