Ok I have been looking over the forums for a few weeks now, and I am very confused. I am being borded for PTSD "GAF of 60", and Depression. For VA I am claiming TBI, Sever headaces, 3 foot surgerys, a knee scope, and a couple other things. I am a SFC with 18y 7m of active service. Three comabt tours to Iraq. I want to make it to 20 but I do not have support from my current CC. I will fight tooth and nail t get to 20. If I cant I am pretty sure I will be able to qualify for CRSC, as I am a purple heart resip, and my disqualifing condition is PTSD. The depression and PTSD keep me from doing my mos, or pretty much anything that an E7 should be doing, and I am FN devistaded becuase of it. I was promoted to E7 Aug 1 2011. I do have an appt to see my PA and get a few more things looked at and documented, so I can appeal and add them latter. I hope!! All in all I have done the budget and it is pretty scary. I was not planning on retiring so soon. I am looking at needing $3500 bucks a month coming in to just get by. Do I have any chance of this??? I know of the programs out there for vets to get jobs, but there is no garrenty. Please help.

Your question isn't too clear on who you are wanting to add new claims with... Even if you get 100% by the VA you can still hold a job of you feel you are capable. If you want to add a claim to the DoD and you are thinking it's a failing claim you can at the PCBR. If you are wanting to make additional claim for the VA side, you can do that anytime once you seperate.

Hope this helps.

I thought I could add to after the NARSUM is done or before. I have my VA syc on the 1st and the appt with my PA on the 2nd. My main thing is to get my problems documented and strech this out till NOV 30th of next year. Thats my 20 year mark. To be completly honset I dont know if I will be able to work. It is very difficult to do what I am doing now. I want to pull my own weight in this world, but Im also Fd up. I ran away from it for year, and now I am suffering worse than ever so I dont know. Im tryn to make some kind of plans for the money part of it. I would really like to go to school after this is done for HVAC, but if I cant pay the bills then I dont think I will be able too. For the 1st time I am coming to grips with the level of how messed up I am, and it aint pretty. I see all these post about the differnet paymnet for differnet ratings and such and I just get all worked up. Like CRDP, CRSC and such. I wish I could just be healthy and not have to worry about this stuff. I served to give back to my country, and do my part. I loved what I did for years, but since June 23 2005 I cant say that. Now I live everyday in a hell that I cant see the door out of. Thanks for any info guys. This sight is a good resorce.

Retirement will be your "top 3" regardless. and at the point your at 20 should be pretty easy to hit, no gurantees though. What you did not make clear is have you actually started the MEB process yet? If you hit 20 and are 50% or greater rated permanently you should have no problem hitting the 3500 mark either, especially if you utilize the post 911 gi bill for yourself or the VA voc rehab. If you get to the point where your PTSD and other injuries get you to where you cannot work at all, there is SSDI to top that off with. I will warn you now, if yuo are just starting the process STAY AWAY from the charts and spreadsheets and guessing games etc. just learn what you need at which step of the process and make sure you have it. and have everythign ever wrong with you documented etc. Know that if your found unfit for PTSD you will be atleast 50%.

Tips to stretch it out BTW-take as long as you can with each phase of the process-ask for an independant review-appeal every chance go to formal go toSecretary of the army etc. that should buy you some time there.

Sorry ya I stared the IDES about 2 months ago. I thought about the GI bill or VOC rehab. I am def looking at the. I dont want to have to count on that money for anything but school if I can go. Question? On my P3 for the MEB they put the PTSD, depression, and the one other but I cant spell it, its my left foot. Does the board look at all 3 for disqualifing? Im pretty sure the the foot isnt gonna be really anything with the Army, but the PTSD and depression will.

Absolutely, the DoD is going to rate you on PTSD and depression. Expect to get minimum 50% Temporary retirement. Everything on a P3 profile is going to be considered as a failing condition.

As 30 July 2012, I am still in National Guard with 90% rated compensation from VA. My unit just send me to get PHA. My PA told me that my diabetic and asthma is not service connected( I have LOD for both ).My question is how come VA award me 60% for asthma and 20% for diabetic? I have 14 years total service between AD and NG but only 11 good years. If they kick me out. Am I entitle for medical discharged or medical retired? Please advice.

That's a good question, this can't be answered until you give some more info... Questions for you:
1. On the asthma were you deployed to Iraq/Afganistan near a burn pit, and was it annotated on the Post PHRA?
2. What other conditions do you have that may find you "fails to meet retention standards"?
3. Being that the PA is not even an equivilant of a nurse, have you requested to see a specialist? (Do not pay out of pocket, Tricare will pay... I have seen issues with this.) It is your right to have a 2nd opinion. If the PA denies it, go see your PCM for a review. Though it will not make a friend of your PA, but they are really glorified know-it-alls that use webMD.com to diagnose...

My asthma get worse after came back from Iraq ( asthma 60%), I got diabetic while in active duty (20%), back pain happen while I was in Iraq (20%) ,PTSD (50%).I did not see any specialist. All I saw are the doctor at VA hospital.

You need to get this reported on the DoD side so you can get DoD benefits!

Shwn....If you just started your MEB, you should be able to actually go OVER 20 yrs, if the PEB finds you 'unfit'. My MEB was initiated in Oct 2010 and I JUST got the letter stating I am unfit and that my packet is being forwarded to Washington State to get the ratings. And I agree with grizz13....appeal every chance you can. During the MEB, I did a rebuttal and an addendum to the rebuttal. (The MEB doctor just looked at AHLTA and not ANY of my civilian records. In fact, the PEB kicked my packet back hammering the MEB doctor for saying, "No notes found in AHLTA, Medically acceptable" for several conditions. PEB Doctor wrote something to the effect that "You can not use 'No Notes in AHLTA' to find a condition medically fit because Reservists and National Guard soldiers do not have access to AHLTA".)

Depending on my ratings, I know I am doing the following..I am doing a Supplemental Claim due to a condition diagnosed after the MEB already started. This condition by itself is medically unfitting. (I am meeting with JAG on Monday to see how this works.) In addition, I plan an Informal Appeal as the MEB doctor said my mTBI was medically fitting and therefore will not receive a rating by the military side. And if that doesn't work I will file a Formal Appeal. I do know my rebuttal and addendum added about six months to the process.

quangle1234...Do not take this wrong, but you should have started your own thread. People who add their conditions and issues to someone else's thread kinda confuses people...like me!!! hehe

Found out last thursday I have my 1st NARSUM summery on 16 Aug. Soon as I get it I have 5 days to sign. So I a going strait to the PEB Jag.

I just got 100% service connected on 06 Aug 2012 and I am still in National Guard ( total 14 years in service both Active and National Guard). What should I do to get medical retired?
