I have been in the USAF on AD for 8+ years. I just received my VA report today. I am being boarded for Sleep Apnea and Asthma + reactive airway disease. I also suffer from Depression w/anxeity. My PCM asked if I wanted to be returned to duty and I said I dont. I am tired of the way things have played out do to these issues. My question is, is that bad what I told him? I am also confused on medical seperation and benefits: if I am separted with severance does that mean I will never receive VA disability payments?

The DoD and VA do their disability ratings a bit differently. DoD may separate you with severance pay, but that doesn't stop the VA from rating your disability on your own. DoD will rate your disability based on your ability to work in the Air Force. VA will rate you based on your conditions' impacts towards future employment. As such, VA evaluations tend to be a bit better on average. As you are being boarded for sleep apnea & asthma (reactive airway disease is basically a form of asthma), each will likely be rated individually. Be sure to check out the VA schedule of ratings so that you can compare your conditions with the VA's standards.

where can I find the VA schedule of ratings?

I'm having a hard time understanding my VA PFT and the way it relates to a rating. My FEV1 is 42% predicted but then it says my Post Test FEV1 is 62% predicted! Which one does the VA use? I am beinged MEB'd for Sleep Apnea & Asthma. Sleep Apnea with a CPAP according to the VA rates at 50%, if the VA ratings come back combined at higher than 30% does that mean I will be ritred, if so does medical retirement mean I will receive a portion of my base pay?

From what I have been informed by my PEBLO and the regulations that he gave me if you are rated over 30% for your MEB issues. You will be retired from the AF.
