Signed my narsum

OK, I signed my NARSUM almost 8 weeks ago. I called the VA to find out what my proposed ratings were, and he told me that they haven't even received my packet from PEB yet. Is that normal?
Shouldn't they get it after I was found unfit? I thought I was going to get my 199 anytime now. I guess not. I don't even know whats going on anymore. My PEBLO never calls me with any information. I had to call her just to find out if I was found unfit or fit.

No, not normal.

Call the PEB and ask about your case, like, when they sent to VA. Someone one here has contact number to PEB...maybe do a search for it. Which, ultimately, it's your PEBLO's responsibility but sounds like your PEBLO isn't going to take care of things, so you need to. You have every right to get your shit done, just as your PEBLO.

The PEB will send your unfit memo (for ratings request) to the VA if you ae found unfit. The VA takes their time to get the ratings back to the PEB, then the PEB takes time to draft your 199. The main (early) way to find out if you were found unfit is to verify that the PEB, in fact, has sent the memo to the VA. How did you determine that you were found unfit by the PEB? For me, it took about two months from the time I signed my NARSUM until the PEB found me unfit and requested ratings from the VA, then another month until the VA sent my proposed ratings to my PEBLO. Then, about one more week until my 356 (199) came in for me to review/sign. So, from the time I signed my NARSUM to the time I signed my 356 (199) was about 3 months and a week. Each situation is different, this is just how it played out for me. From the sounds of it, you should hear from the VA/PEB soon.

I found out I was found unfit from my PEBLO after I called her and asked. I signed my NARSUM on 21 Jan 2013 and was found unfit 22 Jan 2013.

That is quick, probably the quickest unfit finding I have ever heard of. Typically, your file goes in line at the PEB and takes a while for the board to even review it. It took 5-6 days just for the PEB to receive and check my file into the system, then several days to a week before it was even worked into the PEB caseload. Maybe it is different with different branches. Now, the MEB (local DAWG) was quick for me as well before they determined that I needed to go to the PEB, but the PEB took longer.

Yeah, that's what I am hearing from everyone around me, but who does the 199? The VA or the PEB?

The PEB does the 199, with input from the VA on your ratings. They (PEB) apply the VA determined ratings to the conditions that they (PEB) determine unfitting. The completed 199 is then sent to your PEBLO for you to review and sign or appeal.

No problem. I agree wth ceilingfan though, you could contact the PEB to determine when they sent your memo to the VA. Be advised, however, that they don't take too kindly to sm's calling (they don't realize or care that many PEBLO's are overwhelmed or inefficient)...so tread lilghtly when/if you contact them and realize that they will probably rip into you a bit- kill them with kindness and you will get the answers you need...been there, have the t-shirt ;)

Another option is contacting your local DAV and signing them on (for free) with a poa Form 21-22 as your representation. They can get into the system and read the VA notes and give you more detailed answers than the VA is typically willing to give.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I need to hear something soon, or I am going to go completely crazy!!!!!

Understood, thus do you have a favorite activity to temporarily ease your mind?

Best Wishes!

Hey man va said the same thing about my case. My dav says va has everything they need. Someone isn't updating the system.

I wish I could do something to keep my mind off it, but it has consumed me, that's all I think about! I even have nightmares about it. My PEBLO is worthless, she doesn't let me know anything, and when she does, its wrong, I later find out! It looks like I am going to have to get the ombudsman a call. My PEBLO wont even tell me if my unfit memo(which I never even saw or knew I had till I called) ever went to PEB.

Understood, brother; remain strong! :(

Yes, by all means, make the inquiry with the Ombudsman.

Moreover, have you tried making an inquiry with your PEBLO's supervisor? Thus, it may help lessen some of your anxiety?

Best Wishes!

If you PM me, I can see what I can find out as long as you are Army.
