Should I Submit a Statement to Rebuttal my AdSep?

I am being Admin Separated for pattern of misconduct. My CO is recommending a General (under Honorable) discharge at the very least though, due to my mental health being a significant factor. I was originally on a Medboard, which ended up being cancelled after issues with my mental health doc and treatment.

I was wondering if I should write a statement or not to submit to the General? The JAG told me the General could send back the AdSep Paperwork if he didn't agree with it. But legal told me he cannot give me anything less than a general (under honorable) discharge. I don't know what to do, and am afraid I could either make things worse by a statement or make things worse by not doing one. Please help.

If you want to write a letter, talk to your attorney. He/she will guide you as to the content of the letter. What is your desired outcome? BTW, with an honorable discharge you can apply for VA benefits.

As @chaplaincharlie stated this is still an honorable discharge you are eligible for VA benefits.

You really need to ask your attorney this question. They know the facts of the case and probably have a pretty good read on how your General handles cases.

Thanks for the advice! I ended up deciding not to write a letter. And at this point, my desired outcome would be just to get out without ending up with something worse.

Roger, best wishes.
