Requesting NLT Extension and ETS Extension

Hey all, just wanted to inquire if anyone has knowledge on this since I got my NLT date Friday and everyone is off work.

I received my NLT date as of 28SEP25 which is concurrent with my original ETS Date. As of today, I only have 72 days to clear and use all my leave and PTDY instead of 90 days. I'm attempting to maximize the 90 day window due to currently waiting on a job offer so that I can decide to stay local or move back home and go to college.

The IDES office contacted me after I received my NLT from Retirement Services Office that they are approved to submit a request to extend my original ETS Date for 30 days so that I may have the full 90 day window to separate.

I was wondering how the process works after the request is approved. I'm hearing different things about having to submit a 4187 to request NLT extension, while the retirement services office is saying that I'll just get a new NLT date after my request is approved. If anyone has details or information regarding the matter, it would be very appreciated.

Any luck? I’m in the same situation. My orders are predicted to cut in Oct, but i need to stay active until atleast DEC

Hey man, so I did get my ETS extended to guarantee the 90-day mark. I went through the IDES special actions personnel who got me my extension granted. The Retirement office than requested my NLT to be pushed back to the 90 day mark at that point. What I was told that the extension requests are usually denied unless it's a medical necessity. She was surprised I was authorized one.
