Recently separated, waiting on severance/final pay?

Just wanted to see if anyone had an update on a timeframe for this? I am on terminal leave right now and will be medically separated on 1 July. I have separation pay, last paycheck, sold back some leave, started GI Bill, and will have disability coming in sometime (VA on Ft. Benning said 120 days), so I will try and update as things start to roll in, to help others plan on what to expect. The big question I have is what paycheck do they hold? As I said, my last day is 1 July so I figured they would hold my 15 June pay and my 1 July pay. I received pay on 15 June and I just received my LES, it shows EOM June pay will be paid as normal. Any ideas why this is?

If you cleared finance properly before final-outing, I don't know why they would hold anything.

I'm just trying to stop a bigger issue down the road from occurring. Don't get me wrong I mean if everything transitions smoothly then great! but everyone I've talked to, including finance during out processing, said the last paycheck gets held and to expect it 30-45 days after final out date. Now that it looks like that is not happening. It's got me thinking of why. I'm just wondering if something is messed up. You always hear of the messed up stories of finance, anyone on here transition smoothly with no issues or no waiting for their last pay? I've called DFAS and got the same thing from them, "Well that's not right." but no one can tell my why it is.

I know this thread is of but I had a question. On the LES it shows you get 1/2 pay on the first and 1/2 on the 15th. When my husband medically separates will they hold just the 15th check or both 1st & 15th? His DOS is 26may14. No one seems to know that answer.

My husband just received his results, but began having seizures while we were waiting for them. So we requested a formal board and his ratings will change. Right now he's 60% DOD and 80% VA. I'm reading on DFAS that you have to have a disability rating of less than 30% to get severance, so we don't qualify for that. I'm reading here that it could take 30-45 days for his last paycheck and for some, up to a year for their first VA disability check. What do people do to fill the gap? Family of five, young kids, and now he can't drive or be left home alone, so I am not working. I hope someone sees this and can offer some advice.

In my own situation, I was medically retired in May 7, 2014 on May 15th I was paid the clothing allowance owed to me and I was paid 68 days of leave I had accrued.

My VA ratings were finalized on Jun 10, 2014 and I should get my first VA payment July 1st which will be for the month of June. I'm still owed my retired pay which will be for the month of May (8th-31st), my VA is greater than my retirement so it will be offset 100% and I will not see any money from that.

As far as the finances go, hopefully you have some savings to rely on, if you do not things may get tough.

Has your husband contributed to TSP? If so you can make a withdrawal.

He did not contribute to TSP. I am happy to hear that you aren't waiting several months, which eases my mind a bit since we can save for two or three months. We are also hoping to take leave early enough that we can get some BAH saved when we move out of housing. Even though we own our own home and could go back to it, the budget won't let us. We'll probably have to move in with family until it is all sorted. I am thankful we will have benefits, just really wish there was something to help people as they are waiting, though.

I don't know if this will help you, but....

Have you contacted the nearest WTU Wounded Warrior unit?

Many of them have civilians that have access to various agencies that can provide grants for various circumstances.

Phone numbers, things like that.

I can remember when my home furnace went out in the middle of winter, and I had to cough up 7K to replace it. I went to the WTU and found a civilian who was able to secure 2K in combined grant monies for me, so I ONLY had to come up with 5k all at once.

It was a big help!

I know this is an older post, but does anyone happen to have the number to JBLM finance to ask about the status of severance pay/final paycheck?
