Good Afternoon,

I was just recently retired on August 28th with 12 years of service, and in the grade of TSgt. What is the process now for the VA to complete my ratings. I was looking at my ebenefits and noticed that my original claim that was opened on 9/19/2013 was just closed on 9/22/2014. Now I have a new claim that opened on 8/29/2014 and it says the estimated completion date is 10/4/2014-11/4/2014 and its status is in Pending Decision Approval. I do know that when I received my VA proposed ratings my status was in Pending Decision Approval, and I get my proposed ratings back a week after it changed to that status. I don't understand what this means. Does this mean that the VA is near finishing my VA official ratings. How long should it take to start receiving my VA disability compensation? 40% Air Force 80% VA permanent retirement. Thanks for your help.

Indeed, upon a military service member's official transition to a military veteran, the former DoD IDES generated DoVA disability claim closes then a new DoVA disability claim is opened as an official military veteran.

That said, it seems the process has officially begun for the completion of your DoVA final ratings; maybe up to a two-month waiting period at least from my recent experiences.

In addition, a three-month waiting duration surpassed for the receipt of DoVA disability compensation probably due to my eligibility for concurrent receipt payments from both DFAS and DoVA albeit I started to receive DFAS disability retirement pay about one-month after official placement onto the military TDRL.

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Best Wishes!

Ok so I am probably looking at receiving my VA compensation starting in November, since I am already at the Pending Decsion Approval stage. I should get at least 1000 dollars in back pay as well. Also my VA rep at my base told me before I left in June to send him a copy of my DD Form 214 once I get it. Do you remember if you had to do something like that? Thank you.

Indeed, albeit the military Retirement Service Officer (RSO) at the military transition office on post forwarded an electronically signed copy of my DD Form 214 to my PEBLO who in turn forwarded it to the MSC.

That said, I would say that your MSC (VA rep) is/was definitely "on the ball" and performing their job efficiently in my opinion. Moreover, I would upload an e-copy of your DD Form 214 into your DoVA disability claim via eBenefits as a contingency; CYA action at its best...you are welcome! ;)

So I logged into Ebenefits again this morning, and the status changed from Pending Decision Approval to Preparation for Notification. Looks like this is going pretty quick. How will they notify me? Will it be by mail? I am guessing that my proposed rating of 80% from the VA will be my official rating from the VA along with my 40% Air Force. Hopefully I'll start receiving my VA compensation starting in November cuz that is an extra $500 a month, and its tax free.

I'm in the same boat as you, just medically retired from Navy on 29AUG and was thrown off by the new claim. Mine is still sitting on "pending decision approval" so it looks like your claim is going a bit faster. When I called to ask what was going on the guy I spoke with seemed to be irritated I wanted info. Not only that but so far almost every step has been painful. Dfas had me as TDRL and I'm PDRL, PSD didn't send anyone my DD214 or my 2656, and the VA is saying my BAH for my gibill is delayed due to clerical error.

I called the VA today, and I asked them what all this means. All the lady could tell me is that my official ratings are done, and that I will be getting a letter in the mail in 10 days explaining everything. So I asked when I should start receiving me VA compensation and she said there is a payment system in place, but she didn't know when I would be payed. So I am hoping that it doesn't screw with my retirement pay this month. Once I start receiving my VA compensation my retirement pay will go away. The lady I spoke to didn't know what she was talking about, and she had to go ask someone else for every question I asked. I don't like dealing with these uneducated people at the VA, they make my blood pressure go through the roof. I have a feeling that one way or another my pay is gonna get screwed up. I am not sure how everything is gonna transfer over from my retirement pay to my VA compensation pay. Its very frustrating, but I am just trying to remain positive throughout this process.

In my opinion and from my recent experiences, I don't think that you shall incur any difficulties with the transition of DFAS military retirement pay to DoVA disability compensation payments since both DFAS and DoVA work very closely together to ensure proper military retired pay to include any CRSC, CRDP and VA disability retroactive payments.

In retrospect, today, I received a DoVA entitlement letter explaining that I am entitled to a retroactive compensation payment which covered the period 06-2014 through 07-2014 for CRDP. It stated that I may contact the VA with question and receive free help by calling their toll-free number 1-800-827-1000 and/or contact DFAS at 1-800-321-1080 for information concerning CRSC and CRDP payments.

With that all said, I would offer to have a little faith in the collaborative system and you shall receive all due entitlements as permitted by law at the end of the day for sure! ;) Take care and enjoy life!

This post seems to be extremely helpful. Some of you have probably read my story and my situation, but to be clear I am right behind you guys by a few weeks on retirement date. 70%/70% from DOD and VA. Retired September 17th. Ebenefits still sows they are missing my DD214 but my MSC in Hawaii that I worked with assured me that she sent it August 13th. The Seattle VA person also informed me that they received it then. Obviously Ebenefits is not always up to date. I am receiving the DOD retirement which is 300 less for me because good ol NYS crushes people on taxes. I am assuming that I should expect pay mid december or mid january from VA to kick in?

The VA employees that answer the 800# have limited info. For HIPPA/security reasons they don't have access to your entire file. They can only tell you what they can see on their screen, I wouldn't want their job because they are set up for failure.

You can generate an awards letter on ebenefits. If your ratings are done this letter will show you your ratings.

Also check MYPAY every day.

Sometimes, DFAS will post the notification of change in benefits by updating your retiree "LES" statement.

I found this out when I checked my MYPAY daily and knew something was up before I got my VA snail mail.

Just got off the phone with the VA and they told me that they just received my DD-214 on November 13th (This is the one that I electronically uploaded on eBenefits). Before that they told me that they received it on August 13th when I left Hawaii on terminal leave. My MSC swears that she sent it on August 13th and that it should be showing. eBenefits shows "pending seperation documents" requested on 06/13/2014 and evidence past due. My mind is blown. I retired September 17th and sitting here like a moron.

Hmm, I don't see it that way in reference to your self-evaluating remark at this point!

To that extent, I see a military veteran being "positively proactive" which resulted in a validated confirmation of receipt on the DD Form 214..."This is the one that I electronically uploaded on eBenefits;" good job for sure! ;)

Thus, I quite often comment that "possessing well-informed knowledge is truly a powerful equalizer."

Warrior, as you can understand probably from your own experience, it is very frustrating. Yes, I am in a lovely contractor position making good pay, BUT that ends December 30th. I already go to so many doctor appointments per week that I am stuck working weekends to make up the 40 hour agreement between the employer and I. I am also moving in a few weeks to go to school on the GI Bill. Just a frustrating situation, so annoying!
