Ratings Done: DoD unsure/VA 90%

I found out through a resource my combined rating for VA is 90% I am glad for this, but if anything needs appealed about VA percentage is it better to do so while in, or accept DoD findings and appeal VA when I get out?

90% VA, but if I choose VA compensation will I get residual retired pay if DoD is rated high enough?

Thanks

Hello @Gizzy

Opinion: From a non-disability retiree —the VA rates all service-connected disabilities. Additional disabilities can be claimed
later. My last VA award was 20+ years after I retired. Special circumstance: exposure to Agent Orange in Vietnam

You retired pay will be reduced by the amount of the VA comp. Any retired pay in excess of the VA amount, you keep.

So if my DoD rating PDRL (not sure if PDRL) is 60% of my High 3 is ($87,000 currently is my high 3

So, 87,000 X .6=$52,000

90% currently is $29,832 annual

So, I would get $52,000?

Hello,

Based on the info you provided...

$87,000 is not your high three average base pay. Your high three is the total of your highest 36 months of base pay divided by 36.

Your monthly high three amount x 60% = monthly disability pay (unless your longevity multiplier is more than 60%)

Your retired pay will be reduced dollar for dollar in the amount of VA comp received.

You also receive your VA comp.

So, if added up 3 years equals $263,000 divided by 36 is $7305 what do I do from there to calculate monthly payment, $7305x.6?

If the total of your highest 36 months of pay = 263,000, you would divide that amount by 36 = 7305 average high three base pay
Note: Only base pay is used...no amounts for quarters, BAS, etc.

7305 x DoD disability percentage (60%) = disability retired pay

Can you share how you found your ratings? My claims just closed Friday, but there is no letter.
