this might be a dumb question... But I still want to ask. Recently medically retired from the army. Would I be allowed to join the coast guard or anything? Or am I not allowed to try to join any branch?

You would normally have a separation code prohibiting joining another branch. So, short answer is no, you won't be able to join another branch.

But....I have seen reported on this forum at least once where a member was somehow able to join a reserve component after being medically separated. This member did this many years ago. Not sure if it was something that the recruiters did not notice or that did not come up at MEPS or how this happened. Whatever happened, at least anecdotally, it has happened before.
