Pretty good pace so far...

Your update is well appreciated!
Thus, congratulations on your "1000th post" milestone; it's time for a vacation!
Best Wishes!

Vacation is a word that has not been in my dictionary of life for quite some time- I plan to change that this summer.:)
Instead, I printed out and framed my 1000th post and hung it up on my "me" wall in my office. Just kidding. It's hard to believe that I have spent that much time here on the forum during this process, but it has served as an outlet to maintain sanity and direction.

On another note, the VA opened another "claim" stating that I didn't fill out the dependency paperwork when I started my claim (although I did with my VA MSC, and I kept the time/date stamped copy from early 2012). So, I uploaded it to Ebenefits (as requested) and went to my VA MSC and requested that he resend a copy from their side back up to Providence (I sometimes commit "overkill", but it works). I did this on 29 March, and on 30 March, my claim went all the way back to claim received...holy smokes! This error on the VA's part tagged an additional one month to the already estimated claim completion time (now saying May 15). The ironic part is that my claim verification letter loaded into Ebenfits on 30 March, as well as my privi letter and 10 point vets pref app. Sure will be glad when this is all completely finished and I can move on with solid plans. Seems like just when you think you are getting to completion, crap like this happens....just like military and life I general I guess.

A very good point that seems to be true for me, too! :(

VA finalized ratings complete - Ebenefits states notification sent: 8 Feb 2013
VA closed old claim/opened new: 10 Feb 13
VA Ebenefits in pending decision- VA MSC said should finalize within 1 month: 15 Feb 13
First DoD retirement check deposited into my account: 5 March 13
Finalized VA claim changed to Pending Decision Approval in Ebenefits: 22 March
Ebenefits changed to Notification Phase: 28 March
Ebenefits changed back to Claim received!: 1 Apr 13
Called VA and they said that there were deferments/letter is coming to explain: 2 Apr 13
Called DAV VSO, they said that claim is with authorizer: 3 Apr 13 (AM)
DAV called, everything complete/package coming, Ebennies still in claim rcvd: 3 Apr 13 (PM)
Received three letters in mail from VA, including finalized ratings: 4 Apr 13
As you can see, the past wek or so has been rather "eventful". Here is a more detailed breakdown of what happened in case others get in the same spot:
- 28 March, Ebenefits went to notification phase. Good, I'm almost done.
- 29 March, VA opens an additional claim because they state that I didn't complete the dependency paperwork, so I uploaded the 686c and had a copy time/date stamped and sent from my VA MSC (just to be sure). Being that I had completed this at the beginning of this whole process, I thought this might have been an April fools joke, but I quickly realized that the VA doesn't have a sense of humor.
- 1 Apr, original DES claim went from Notification to claim received! Holy crap.
- 2 Apr, called the VA to figure out what the hell was going on, and the rep stated that I was granted benefits, but I need more appointments- how the heck can the VA grant benefits when there are still open issues, I thought. Well, he wasn't allowed to be specific, but said that I was ok and to wait for the letter to explain. I was pretty irritated (although I never let it show to him), thinking that I was going to have to go through the wringer again (tests, poking, prodding, etc.). I hung up with him and called my DAV VSO, who was just leaving for the day and said that he would get in and investigate and let me know first thing in the morning.
- 3 Apr (AM), DAV VSO called me back and said that my claim was with authorizer
- 3 Apr (PM), DAV VSO called and said that claim was complete as of 1 Apr, I should be getting the letter any day now. Lesson here- the VA doesn't do a very good job at tracking or even updating their own systems/notes.
- 4 Apr, I received 3 letters from the VA today; the first was saying that I was eligible for additional $10k in insurance and had a pamphlet, the second one was a letter stating that my claim was still processing and that they apologize and the third one was a BIG BROWN ENVELOPE....my finalized ratings! This was the single best bit of proof to me that the VA is truly lost...
After reading my ratings, everything was as I expected, but they had deferred 2 of my issues because they need "color pictures of the lesion on my chin (lipoma)" and range of motion for my jaw (TMJ), although I had the full dental AT THE VA as part of my C&P exams and this was included on the C&P docs narrative and my PEB results. Good thing, though, is that the lipoma was rated at 0% anyway, and the TMJ at 10%- so not a big deal at all. They will schedule me for the appointments. So, if your case goes from Notification to claim received, this is most likely what has happened. One good way to check if your ratings have been approved (for the most part) is to check Ebenefits (documents, download VA letters section). Your letters should be loaded there and will display your percentage. Additionally, the benefits explorer section will list your ratings on the left hand section where you enter the data (they will prefill it for you).
So, I'm pretty much done for now, if anybody has questions, let me know and I'll share my experiences.

Congratulations! You successfully endured until completion the DoD IDES MEB/PEB process! :)

If you don't mind, I shall definitely make inquiries to you as my DoD IDES MEB/PEB process continues; as warranted.

Thus, you outlined an excellent IDES timeline for historical reference and thank you from us all.

Best Wishes!

Aviator do you know if your getting backpay from the VA from the day you retired till the completed your ratings

Aviator do you know if your getting backpay from the VA from the day you retired till the completed your ratings

Eng,
My AF retirement is higher than my VA amount, so it will just offset starting the day I retired= no extra money, just reduced tax burden. Currently, I'm receiving my full retirement from the DoD, all taxed.

For those 100% P&T, don't forget that you have to re-verify and apply for Chapter 35 Education benefits for your dependents. The VA will not reveal this to you. Also, all retired/separated vets (regardless of rating) should examine your state benefits for veterans (this is the state VA, different division than national VA).

Right behind you guy--got the phone call tonight, paperwork next week. They were waiting on results from a hearing test when they already had one item at 100% and combined ratings of 100% on everything else. They are going to issue the 100% and defer the hearing/meniere's which would be another 60%--but who cares? Now I can start working on a new ADA house with that $65k of VA grant money. Got lakeside land already:).

That's good stuff.

This is all good news! :)

Hopefully, upon received of my finalized DoVA ratings in the future, the currently proposed VA 100% rating will be increased to 100% P&T with SMC.

Best Wishes!

If anybody is tracking, this makes about three months post retirement to receive my first VA check. My first VA check was incorrect, as it failed to pay at the "with dependents" rate. I submitted all documentation to the VA and my VA MSC while I was active duty, then again about a month or so ago, and they have yet to correct it because it is now open as a new claim for "dependency". I assume that I will get the retro pay once the issue is resolved.
Note to all- ensure that dependency status is established BEFORE leaving the service- don't just assume that since you accomplished all the requirements from the VA that everything is automatic. Call the VA and confirm with them that dependency has, in fact, been established.
Still anxiously awaiting the results from the AF CRSC board. They said that the process could take up to two months, but average was one month. My one month mark would be 10 May

Ok, I received the decision letter from the CRSC board- mixed news. I received a partial combat rating for my injuries, so small victory there. However, my WW rep at San Antonio is re-engaging the director to get my full injury rating rated as combat. So, while I'm happy that I'm partial rated, I'm anxious to see what my WW rep can get done. We think the reason why they were hesitant to rate my full injuries is because I'm 100%. I don't want to release my combat ratings just yet, until this is complete.

Is it best to call the DAV in Seattle rather than filling out contact on the DAV website
