Preliminary Ratings

Has anyone ever had the PEB come up with a different rating, or dispute the VA rating? If so, was it in your favor?

Jessica,
I asked the same question of my PEBLO last week, and he said since the move to the IDES system that it has happened at the Joint Base Lewis-McCord PEB, but not very often. Next week, I am expecting to receive my 199. If the "refered" issues aren't in-line with the VA proposal, I will appeal. I would recommend that others do the same. But I don't think that I am very concerned about it.

With the new system, the DoD typically rates the same as the VA. If you don't like the numbers, talk to a PEB lawyer. Do not, do not, do not sign your findings without talking to a lawyer.

Yeah, I mean, the folks at the VA (can't tell me my ratings over the phone, of course), but they keep saying things like "I'd be happy", and "congrats on your retirement". So, I'm wondering, what are the odds that the PEB is going to be like, "oh hell no". lol.

I've learned to take absolutely nothing for granted unless it's signed in triplicate, in hand, endorsed by a lawyer, and blessed by Don Juan. Even then, I'd still be a bit nervous.

If you want a copy. Go to the DAV; complete their Power of Attorney; once the VA system resets they can give you everything the VA has produced. My MSC is less than forth-coming. He seems to use his inside knowledge as a means of control; so the DAV has become my "inside" information and they are on my side. I've got everything including actions/discussions by the MSC, rater, and reviewer.

Just remember, knowledge is power. If things go South, you can use their arguments / justifications in your favor.
