I was wondering if any one would like to share POST-PDBR experiences once granted Retirement. This would help those that just have been notified of the results and what to do next. Thanks,

PDRL to 30% notification received on 1 October 2011. The letter stated, because of the numerous PDBR cases being dealt with, it may be "Several months" before any DFAS activity occurs. Today I called DFAS Retirement and Annuitant, just to see if anything has happened. Dfas received my retirement orders from the Army on the 18th of October. I have not gotten my retirement orders yet. DFAS told me that the orders are what they need to begin working on my account. So at least there is progress. I think that the "several month" statement is meant to keep the inquiries to a minimum. I could be wrong and there may be a long road ahead.

Could you post your timeline as best you can recall??

Thanks, and congratulations!

Justrluck,

I am assuming the timeline for the MEB/PEB/PDBR process:

I was given 20% severance from the Army, seperated 11 December 2009.
Submitted for the PDBR in April 2010.
Was confirmed with the PDBR intake May 2010.
Was notified by the PDBR that my case was complete and had gone to adjudication October 2010.
Notified by mail of the PBDR recommendations, and Army approval for 30% PDRL on 1 October 2011.

Thanks, I appreciate you posting this. Most folks I've followed seem to be having about the same time in terms of package completion to notification.

Seems you're a bit ahead of me in the process. How long from the date you were notified did it take DFAS to get your orders? I called the other day and they had no record of me (yet). Also, did you get a copy of your amended DD214 yet? Sorry for all the questions, but I can't STAND the waiting!

Thanks, and happy hollidays!

Justrluk.

I got the recommendation/Army approval for PDRL notice at the beginning of October 2011. DFAS had my retirement orders on 18 NOV 11. I got my orders and the DD2656 on 5DEC11. I did not get a 214 yet.

I did take the recommendation/Army approval letter to a near-by NG Armory and was able to register into DEERS and get an ID card. That seems to be a big question. There is the answer. I got the ID card at the beginning of October.

Pay and DFAS has not been as quick. DFAS has told me that there is a 30 day processing time from the time that they get orders until pay, yet they also told me that this 30 day cycle begins the day they get my completed DD2656. The last word I had from DFAS is that all the documents needed to process my pay have been submitted by both myself and the Dept. Army. That was a few days ago.

So it seems we wait approximatley 2 years for the PDBR decision, then another 3 to 4 months in uncomfortable pondery over how the retro pay goat roping turns out. Is DFAS gonna put the screws to me regarding the severance? Is the VA gonna suck my soul? Is this PDBR really, ultimately beneficial to a broken troop? Anxiety over these matters, at this level, is not good for anyone, especially a broken soldier.

No doubt. I'm going to call DFAS today and see if they have any orders yet. Did you call the Indy number? Also re: severance repayment, I dug this up (enclosed) and did some reading. In my case, I believe DFAS will take what I've already paid in severance recoupment, then any pay forthcoming from the AF, to include retro I might have gotten if I didn't owe the severance. I can't get a bead on what the actual remaining balance is, but I'm sure DFAS will calculate it to the penny. Since my VA is more than my AF retired pay (at least the estimate I saw), I wouldn't get it anyway. SO - if I read the DoDI right, they'll keep money I've already paid plus what I wouldn't see any way to pay a debt that wouldn't be a debt if I had received severance from a private company. Goat rope doesn't even come close to gov't logic...

This truly has become a part-time job.

Justrluk,
I am SOOOOOO with you on this! It is such a goat-F*ck that it boggles my mind. Thanks for posting that resource!

Orioin-
Any time. Called DFAS: no word on my orders yet. I'm sure the Holiday week brought them to a grinding halt.

All, do you have any updates for the new year?

Posted my status in another thread, but BLUF: received a copy of the directive and sent an email to DFAS requesting status. Will post results/response.

First, follow the instructions they send you.

The Army Review Boards Agency will notify you that the Secretary accepts the board’s recommendation to permanently retire you. There are some things you can do with this packet to get started. TriCare is one of them, and some people have reported that they brought the packet to military facilities and were issued ID cards. As soon as you get this paperwork, contact the nearest Retirement Services Office and ask if you can attend a retirement briefing. Get familiar with the RSO. You’ll need them later.

TriCare
You do not need orders to utilize Tricare. DoD will update your status in DEERS as retired long before you receive orders. Go online to the TriCare website and create an online account. Their system will automatically check, and if you are retired in DEERS, you will be able to create the account. You will be under TriCare Standard. You must apply for Prime, if that’s what you want, but you may be required to submit orders with the application. Keep in mind that you will have to pay a premium for Tricare Prime. People have been reporting that TriCare paid for “some” of their medical expenses incurred between separation from the military and PDBR retirement.

Army Physical Disability Agency will send you another packet with orders, paperwork for direct-deposit of retirement pay and allotments, election of Survivor Benefit Plan (SBP), and instructions on how to submit them properly to DFAS. As soon as you get this packet, fill it out and have the Retirement Services Officer notarize and fax it to DFAS. Also mail a hard copy to DFAS. It’s better to get paperwork to DFAS sooner than later.

DFAS
DFAS is slow. Waiting for DFAS to set up an account is akin to waiting for the PDBR. You call and check, and they’ll tell you that they are working on it. There’s nothing you can do, and it will likely take a few months.

CRSC
CRSC does nothing until DFAS establishes an account for you. If you submit an application to CRSC prior to DFAS establishing an account for you, CRSC will send you a letter informing you that, essentially, you do not exist. They will, however, hold on to the packet until “you” notify them when DFAS set up your pay account, and inform them again that you would like to apply for CRSC.

JPPSO / Household Goods
Check with JPPSO ASAP to see if your orders are properly formatted. If you intend to have DoD contractors ship your household goods, you have up to one year to complete travel arrangements… according to the narrative on the orders. However, some of our orders are missing the MDC code that JPPSO needs to fulfill their obligation. It’s an arduous task getting the buggers to correct that omission, but if you make a persistent and big enough stink, they will correct it. The people who cut orders at the medical separations office will have to amend the orders. Elicit the help of the Retirement Service Officer (RSO), if necessary.

Vehicle Registration
Being phased out. No more DoD stickers on the windshield. Only need DoD ID card to get on post.

E-mail / AKO/DKO
Medical retirees with less than 20 years do not get AKO/DKO accounts. AKO/DKO is the email account with the format "your.name@us.army.mil", for instance.

Disclaimer:
The voices in my head might not be real, but I sure like the way they think.
The information contained here is based on my experience (Regular Army). I am not a professional. I may update this post as I go through this post-PDBR process myself. I’ll highlight the updates in red, if I do.

Last, follow the instructions they send you.

I was given an AKO account for a brief period of time, then I noticed I could no longer log in. I was given the run around but if this information is true, I know why. I think that it's rediculous we don't get and AKO account because there is tons of information about things that you can access on AKO. Once again, medical retirees given the shaft. One can only hope that we will one day get concurrent receipt.
