Greetings,
I have been watching this forum for 11 months! You all have helped a great deal in understanding the process. Especially with so many open ended questions that are out there, this forum was able to fill in the gaps
. I truly appreciate each and everyone of you for your input and help for those of us who have viewed your post, took advice yet remained silent. Today I am braver so here I go!
I created a new thread and I hope that is alright. I did not see many or any post with Air Force perspective and experiences
. I have hit a road block but at least it happened at the end of the process. I will go further into detail below...
In 2002 I was medically separated with an AF rating of 10% for Asthma. The VA rated me 90% for overall disabilities. However, for Asthma I was rated 30% which was more than the 10% the Air Force assigned to me.
In 2006 or so and over the years I kept receiving emails from my prior base asking me to contact them. For some reason I thought they were spam
. So I kept deleting them. In July 2011, I needed a letter from my VFW Rep and he informed me I qualified for Medical Retirement and directed my husband and I on how to get the process started. I wanted to file for Permanent and Total Disability, but he told me to get my Retirement the afterwards come back to see him and he will file for PTD.
In any event, as of yesterday I had not heard from the board. So last night I decided to email them. I received a response approximately 2 hours later stating that, on 28 June 2012 the Secretary of the Air Force Approved your retirement retroactive to Oct 2002.
My husband is currently TDY and our family is with him, so I have not been home to see if there is a package as many of you state you have received. But, I replied to the email and mentioned this forum and said that it seems I was suppose to be abreast on recommendations especially since the decision was made 28 June 2012. The "person" attached all documents associated with my file immediately.
This is where I am unclear on what to do:
The cover sheet has a phone number, however this AFPC number is out of order and the link they provide was no longer accessible! My husband is an Air Force Officer so he called retirements at his base; but, they are unaware of what to do to assist me
.They directed him to AFPC retirements and AFPC informed us to contact our local base retirement office. Frustrated because that is what we did to get the proper AFPC number.
I am assuming the package will have more details and instructions, than the documents I received via email. What I am wondering is, are there any AF personnel who have run into this similar situation? If you have, what advice do you have?
Upon returning to the base I will promptly seek out a retirement ID and email account. Then go to retirements for assistance. I pray they are able to help. I'lll keep everyone posted; however, if you have any input or having similar experiences with this portion of the process please let me know. Have a wonderful evening.
May God Bless you all.
