Got good news back from the IPEB and VA finally so I need to set a retirement date. I've read a bunch of stuff and I feel a little confused and hoping some smart people on here can help. Here goes...
If I choose the full 90 wait period, my 90 day retirement point would be 1 NOV 17. I know I don't want to choose that day because my VA start date would then move to 1 DEC and I would not see a VA check until 1 JAN.
I am trying to decide between 30 OCT and 31 OCT because both of those days will make my VA eligibility date 1 NOV as I understand it and I would get a check 1 DEC.
I was told if I choose 30 OCT that my mil pay would stop 15 OCT and I would have to wait for back-pay until DFAS settles everything post retirement. The same person told me if I choose 31 OCT that I would get my full months pay for OCT and not have to skip a check.
What's right? I'd like to choose 31 OCT if that gets me a full months pay and also makes my VA eligibility date 1 NOV so that I get my first check 1 DEC.
