Anyone here retired through DOD for Pes Cavus(claw foot) diagnostic code 5278?
Thank you for letting me know. I am going through the PDBR so they are reviewing my case again. The VA rated me under that code with bilateral plantar fasciitis. I had surgery on both feet and it failed miserably. The VA gave me 30% immediately after discharge. The Army rated me under 5399-5310 as chronic bilateral painful feet at 0% unfit. It’s good to see someone else retired under 5276. My attorneys said that under that code I should have been but I didn’t know of anyone that got it with that code.I was retired through DOD for diagnostic code 5276, bilateral planter fasciitis. There were more foot issues for the PEB, but they were all included under this code for my PEB. Really tough one to get through the Army PEB. Basically the podiatrist said the only option for my foot was bone fusion surgery, so that is what made it unfitting because I would no longer be able to move effectively under combat situations.
Thanks for the info about your conditions. I am delaying surgery until absolutely necessary, I will just deal with the pain. I had to VARR my original PEB percentage because it was at 0% initially. In the VARR I asked to be rated separately under 5003 and 5276 and they came back with one rating under 5276 at 30%, both DOD and VA. Recently had the podiatrist reaffirm that surgery was my only option just in case the VA decides to re-look at that rating.Thank you for letting me know. Yeah I definitely do not recommend a plantar fasciotomy. Worst decision of my life honestly. I have NVLSP representing me during my PDBR and they argued that I should be been rated under 5276 or 5278 which is impairment of the feet. I’m just hoping the board does the right thing and gives me at least 30%. It’s also really effected my mental health. It’s hard to be in pain everyday and not be able to walk for the last 15 years. Thanks for the info about your conditions.
