PDRB Army Time Line

Jake, the letter informing me of decision had explanation of their findings and two signature pgs.
Crowley,

Sorry for not seeing your response until now. I have received my decision letter and in part, I am pleasantly surprised with the outcome. However, I am somewhat confused. The PDBR recommended an up grade from 0% to 20% for one condition but did not rate the second condition because it "was not implicated in the commander's statement." In fact, to give you the full statement, " Although the neck condition was profiled and judged to fail retention standards, it was not implicated in the commander's statement."

What exactly does that mean and have you seen or heard of that before?

Hey Jake, I'm probably the least qualified to understand what that was about, lol. I didn't encounter that in my decision letter. MAYBE, if that particular condition wasn't part of the original medical conditions included in the med board they wouldn't look to reclassify it? That's only a guess though.

So far, from I gathered, that is close lol. From what I understand, the neck condition was why I was referred to the MED/PEB process but not ultimately considered by my commander when making the discharge decision. Not exactly sure what to do from here honestly. Basically, my back condition was up graded to 20% and my neck was not considered even though they say it was deemed unfit.

I don't know either. I have yet to receive any other information regarding next steps. From what I understand they have to have DD 214 updated and then send orders for DEERS and ID's? Who knows. More waiting it seems.

Hey, you're successful. I may consult an attorney and see if it is worth pursuing. I mean, the letter basically makes it sound like I should be at least 30% DoD, who knows. However, from some of these forums, I have seen others having to wait a few months to get there paper work right with deers so they can sign up with DEERS and TriCare for life. Hang in there.

Hello, in response to an ARMY timeline here is mine...over 3 years.

Applied: 22 May 2018 (via Email)
Received email informing me it was received: 09 Nov 2018
I emailed to check status: 25 Feb 2019
Received response: 01 Mar 2019 (Told it was in records collection phase. Waiting on VA records)

Totally forgot about it/put it out of my mind...

Received letter letting me know it was approved: 25 Feb 2021

Interesting to note that the PDBR date on form recommending 30% was signed 01 May 2020 and approved by ARMY on 29 Oct 2020.

A little backstory: I went through MEB and discharged in June 2004. Only reason I applied for review was because I never understood why DOD gave me 10% at MEB and VA gave me 40% for same conditions (back and both hips). I never understood it and was told it didn't matter by an unhelpful person while processing out so that was that. When I got letter about review I asked a friend who was retired ARMY and she said not to bother...to leave it alone. Almost a year later I decided to chance it. Seemed pretty clear there was something odd as both ratings stemmed from the same exam done in Feb 2004. DOD gave me 10% for back and 0% for hips. VA gave me 20% for back and 10% for EACH hip. I was prepared for them to say no, take your 10% and go. Never expected $ as I'm now 90% through VA and AD time was only 4 yrs. Glad I did it. At least for the healthcare as I'm at a job I hate just for the health insurance for my children, lol, but I'm thankful it was corrected.

As I just got decision I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Guess I'll just wait until they tell me something actionable.

UPDATE:

25 June 2021: Received big brown envelope w/retirement orders, certificate, and DD 214 amendments (original and sheet listing amendments...original not changed)
Attached was a list of things to do and advice to contact an RSO to process forms I have to submit to DFAS.

What a process
