Hello all. I was referred to this site by my sister and she had nothing but nice words to say about it. And from what I have seen so far, I already agree. Last June, I woke up and could not move. I was diagnosed with 'HypoKalemic Periodic Paralysis'. Later on, we found out that it is a secondary condition to my hyperthyroid. I have missed many days of work because of these episodes and was told a few months ago that I would be undergoing a MedBoard after my surgery. TODAY, I found out that they will 'RILO' my MedBoard. I was under the impression that means 'speed things up'. Again, I am new to all of this and want to be completely prepared. What happens from here? I'm still pretty new to the Air Force as well. Only in 3 1/2 years. Thanks in advance for any info...and thanks to everyone for serving.

Welcome Bernie. Usually, a RILO is an annual review of your conditions after you have been found fit or returned to duty from a MEB. It is used to ensure that your conditions haven't worsened over the year, warranting another MEB.They are probably meaning that they intend to fast track your MEB, but (if your conditions affect your ability to perform your job or could be determined unfitting, or your conditions are complex), a fast track MEB is usually out of the question. With a fast track, your case never leaves your base/post, etc, and is determined by a local MEB panel. Otherwise, you go through the whole enchilada and go through a MEB/PEB, VA C&P exams and rating process, etc. I'm guessing here, but I would think that anything concerning paralysis would probably warrant a full MEB. As for the hyperthyroidism, you symptoms would have to be pretty severe and uncontrollable via meds in order to be considered unfitting (typically, from what I have read).

Thanks. That's kind of what I was thinking. I don't wanna "fast track" anything because things tend to get overlooked when rushed. If they decide to fast track MEB me, can I request a full MEB?
